well thank you

well mr shahbuddin only excepted there is a certain flow of his community that is seriously thinking of what wrong they have doing so many years and are correcting it. its people like him that cause the fear sycosis among the minoroties. thats how these guys keep getting elected and tell every one that the other person is to blame for all your troubles, when its actually them. all bjp is asking for a law that wants equality and i dont see any wrong in that. but the likes of shahbuddin (congress and so called secular included)see that as eroding of vote banks.
the bjp is asking for leice of land that they believe is very sacred to them. so whats wrong. they could show and respect the feelings and hand it over. there was never a so called mosque (as one needs to keep praying there to validate its sanctity) rajiv had it opened to off set the shah banu case effect.

Excellent interview
by Shankar Gopalakrishnan on Apr 08, 2004 08:34 PM

Syed Shahabuddin lays out the issues quite clearly. I'm sure that the majority of the posts on this website will be full of hate-filled vitriol against him just because he happens to be a Muslim (first) and he speaks the language of democracy (second). There can be no greater sin in the eyes of the Hindutvawadis who currently control our government and, unfortunately, seem to dominate the Indian presence on the Internet (which thankfully is a miniscule proportion of our people). Can the VHP show us one leader who is able to speak with this spirit of respect for the rule of law and the Constitution? After numerous terrible crimes against his community, this man is not calling for bloodshed and revenge. When 58 people were killed in the horrible crime of Godhra, the VHP massacred 2,000 more in the most horrible fashion in the name of revenge. But this man retains sufficient humanity and compassion to not call for more revenge and more brutality. The Hindutva fanatics would do well to learn from him. Some day all Indian politicians may speak with these voices, till then those of us who retain our sanity have to carry on fighting for our democracy and our country.

''few'' Muslims have joined BJP
by Seenu Subbu on Apr 08, 2004 10:32 AM

I have been looking at this headline for more than 48 hours now, which is pretty unusual for Rediff.
Syed Shahabuddin has made a successful career out of thwarting a peaceful solution to the Ayodhya dispute. Being a successful diplomat in the IFS did not give him enough gratification or a sense of accomplishment as Muslim, he went around claiming Muslims were second class citizens.
Mr.Shahabuddin, it doesn't matter how many Muslims have joined BJP. You deny credibility to Syed Bukhari, you deny credibility to tbat "mere school teacher" in Lucknow who is campaigning for Vajapayee. What makes you think Allah has left you to represent Indian Muslims? You are a professional politician that thrives on the Hindu-Muslim divide and more the Muslims are in misery, the better it is for your political advancement. Please leave them alone, and please, don't keep a daily count of how many Muslims joined BJP or how many actually voted for them. Because that is irrelevant (just as irrelevant as you are going to be, after the elections!), given that BJP is no longer untouchable. You cannot carry on the bogey of "BJP is a communal party" forever!

few muslims have joined BJP
by mohd ansari on Apr 08, 2004 10:14 AM

Just wish to say few words about SHAHABUDDIN instead of commenting on the subject. First of all this gentelman should correct himself and stay with his ideas. He has been shifting his views from one to another party in quick succession with no solid reason. He has been a fire brand speaker on the subject of minorities but unfortunately never spoke anything which is sensible or can benefit the minorities.
we should ignore politician/s like him.

i dont about any party hoppers
by pramod on Apr 08, 2004 08:32 AM

Just because the political situation is tending towards a two party contention dosent mean u have to join one of them even though its against ur ideals. Coming to the "genocide" capabilities of BJP, there always have beeen communal tensions and its high time we accepted that they will exist as long as there are politicians who make statements like "muslims are not with BJP" and parties whose manifesto for building a nation has a preamble of building a temple. We have to choose the lesser evil and hope it remains the lesser. Congress has made a lot of "the stupidest" mistakes and BJP is yet to make a second mistake.

Syed Shahbuddin
by Mohit on Apr 08, 2004 08:04 AM

It is hillarious to read the article. Who at all in India is listening to this guy. As he was left out in lurch by everybody, he jumped on to the congress. There are numerous instances of politicians jumping trains, but this one is a classic.
The reasoning is superb, and the tail oops tongue wagging for Sonia Gandhi is excellent.
I hope rediff does not play into the hands of these guys and stop publishing such communal articles, that play on Hindu Muslim divide.

Another fellow tring to play the minority card.

<<<It is our duty that whatever be the final judicial verdict, we have to execute it without any hesitation, whether any party accepts it or not. >>>
Where was this man and what was he doing during Shah Bano case ?? Neither the interviewer has asked nor did he say anything about UCC. The sectorial and religion based politics is like a slow poison. It leads to a kind of multicultarism that would be dangerous for our country. When Vajpayee or RSS say
" well being of the minority depends greatly on the good will of the majority ", there is so much of hidden truth in that. These folks who continue to malign BJP will never appreciate what NDA govt has achieved in the past 5 years. It is not going to be long before the temple/mosque issue, articl 370 and Uniform Civil Code are going to be in the manifesto of "NDA" not just BJP.
What I fail to understand is that these folks talk about indo-pak peace. I don't see how it is possible. As a patriotic Indian, I would hate to see giving up even a square inch of territory beyond the LOC and LOC cannot be the permanant border for the other party...as simple as that.

Secularism
by Krishna on Apr 08, 2004 12:08 AM

Secularism means treating all people with same respect and laws. It doesnt mean than Minorities have to be treated better than the Majority, by having different laws for each community.
