In my opinion, 1) Kapil Dev should get the credit for changing Indian cricket forever. 2) Sachin should get the credit for attracting youth to cricket. 3) Ganguly should get the credit for making the team grow someballz. 4) Dhoni should get the credit for bringing in double standards into the team, he had a different yardstick for people wholicked hisazz, a different yardstick for seniors of his era. He has a different yardstick now for himself, he has built a rotten ecosystem.
I do not know weather the new generation knows about it, but India was nowhere in Picture in 1983 world cup.West Indies had the best batting side with Viv Richards leading from the front and the most fierce bowling attack of all times was with WI. Andy Robers, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Malcom Marshall were the most dreaded fast bowlers at that time and even after that till now there is no such kind of devastating bowling attack seen. India then won all the league matches and finally when the team was in a knockout stage, Kapil Dev hit an unbeaten 175 against Zimbabve to lead the team to the next stage. Now with the best batting line up and best bowling attack we could not reach upto finals. Dhoni is the next genration hero after Kapil Devs era, but it was Kapil Dev who changed Indian Cricket for ever after than historic world cup win.
Yes, he is the man that has changed Indian Cricket - for good. We may lose matches - it is a team game; but he is always a winner. Kudos to Dhoniji. Thank you
Dhoni record outside Asia is mediocre. His test record is terrible. For me one if the reason India lost to kiwi was his over defensive approach. Anyway he has never played swing bowling well and hidden himself when he has to face such bowling.
Kapil Dev was loathed at the end of his career, so was Gavaskar, Sachin, Saurav and now Dhoni. After retirements these very people start praising them. It is easy to criticize. Those who are criticizing never realize that at the fad of one's career people do stutter, it is natural.
Before marriage, the youth is ready to take risks, after marriage the risk taking ability reduces after having children it will reduce even more. This applies equally to sports person and common public.
Those who are criticizing should ask themselves, have they not failed in their life at all, have they never disappointed there near and dears due to some rash decisions?
Success and failures are part of life, why judge people or sportsperson merely based on their achievements?
Learn to celebrate our heroes. Before criticizing others just look into yourself, look what you achieved, look what you contributed to society, look what you have done for your country. Once you start self analyzing you will stop criticizing others.

Sunil Manohar Gavaskar was the pillar around which modern Indian cricket found its inspiration and motivation. He was unbending in his urge to learn from his mistakes. In the professionalism that he brought to his craft and art, he was characteristically un-Indian. Before him, Test cricketers were part-timers. (Largely because the Board did not care to invest in them). The adulation, the hero-worship that he garnered following his debut 774 runs in the series Garfield Sobers' West Indies, was the spark that opened up cricket for aspiring cricketers like Kapil Dev and others. Gavaskar, unlike many, knew when to quit, still at the peak of his cricket, when people would ask "why?" rather than "why not?". Sunil Gavaskar was also a proud individual, who did not brook any slight; he snubbed the MCC by turning down their offer of a life-time membership. Why? The steward at Lord's gate did not allow him to enter the stadium, because he had left his blazer in the dressing room. And this was after he had scored a magnificent century as his swansong for the rest of the world team. The MCC felt embarrassed enough about this snub to ask a stalwart, Colin Cowdrey, to intercede with Gavaskar and ask him to rescind his decision not to accept their membership.
The man who changed Indian cricket is not Dhoni it is Kapil Dev who made the team to believe in themselves.
Dhoni was having the legends in the team who could get the results. He only took the lime light from the legends in the team. kindly check his contribution in all the cup indian won under his captaincy others played and he took the fame from them. even in 2011 cup he purposely came ahead of Yuvi because he did not get any lime light in the earlier matches and Yuvi was getting all the lime light. Dhoni is useless. please remember the legends not this useless captain who was having delicious legends in the team to manage the party all this long. He is not even a finisher he proved in this word cup.
