TRANSITION MUST BE SMOOTH - - -
by Shilpa Mehta on Jul 22, 2019 02:00 PM

MSD is a GREAT player but towards the fag end
of his career . If not today , say after a year he will
retire . But in next one year MSD's replacement MUST
be ready to step into his big shoes .

Pant , Saha must be groomed suitably by ROTATION POLICY
to replace MSD .

Team should not land up in problems after MSD's exit .

We have seen bad condition of many teams after retirement of
their good players , for Example - - -

1. SA after ABD , Steyn & Pollock .

2. Lanka after Sanga , Jayawardene & Murali .

3. AUS after Ponting , Clarke ,Gilshrist , Lee & Shane Warne .

4. PAK after Akram , Waqar , Inzamam etc - -

SUCH THING SHOULD NOT HAPPEN WITH TEAM INDIA .

What a Tragedy?
by Dhananjay Dalvi on Jul 22, 2019 01:08 PM  | Hide replies

Its indeed a tragedy for Indian Cricket, a wicket keeper who has never played more that 10 Test and more than 20 ODI. I even doubt he has made his mark in the India First Class cricket is the Chief selector. First we need to re-look at the person sitting on the Chair of Chief Selector.
Being sportsmen that to at national level specially cricket in India is a difficult affair. The Cricketers in India are on par with the Soccer players of any European or South American countries. When they are at peak everyone will love them, and when they are not performing, everyone will come together to criticize. Funny part here is those who have not played at the school level would be first one to give their opinion. Its easy for them to sit on their luxurious sofa in front of their TV and comment that ball should have been played in that particular way. Or that player played a slow innings. Have they ever thought are they only people who want to win. No player would like his/her team to lose. Great players know when to stop,so we should leave it them to decide.Instead of criticizing we should learn from them.

Stars - realise that you are not indispensable
by Kannan Ramanan on Jul 22, 2019 01:04 PM  | Hide replies

Gavaskar, Tendulkar, now Dhoni - all followed the same trend, not retiring even while touching 38-40. This is the egoistic trend most sportstars are exhibiting especially in Indian cricket. Country, Sport, Management is above individuals, there need be no kid gloves extended to any one however high and mighty they are.
I have greatest respect for Dhoni and have followed him from day 1 till now, but surely last 2-3 years, he has lost his ability and thinking of the same strategy of pushing games to the last 2-3 overs for finishing which has not succeeded in this period, it may have, during his prime years. It happens to the best of players and they need to realise and have the guts to accept it and exit gracefully and at the right time. If Dhoni was still serious and had the fire in the belly, whatever the circumstances, he should have demonstrated in the demanding WC games, which did not happen. His obdurate ways obstructed the team in most of the matches, the final strike rate may say 90, but the circumstances created were not exactly match-winning. With his diminishing strike rate and at times even to rotate strike, he has put enormous pressure on the other players, besides he has not been able to win many games. Dhoni should have opted for Tests and stayed away from one-dayers and T-20's. Now, rather than the Management ignoring him, rightly so, it would be good for him to say bye on his own.

Gavaskar's case is different. Gavaskar retired from all forms of cricket in Oct 87 after playing WC semi-final against England at Mumbai. Even though he was 38 years old then, he was not out of form. Just 10 days back before retiring, he had scored match winning century against New Zealand at Nagpur in last league match of WC. The last test match he played was in Mar 87, when he had scored 96 in his final test inning at Bangalore against Imran's PAK team( the inning, which is considered as one of the best ever test innings on turning wickets). Even his performance in 1986 was quite good......Yes, but I totally agree with you on your comments on Dhoni!

R Pant is a failure in all formats. He does not play to the requirements. He throws his wicket away when it is actually needed. He does not have the patience and temperament to play a long and sustained innings in any position. He need t play long Ranji matches etc before coming to international games. Please look for some one has the required quality . Prithivi Shaw, gill. Mayank Agarwal can be given an exposure instead of Kedar Yadav. R Ashwin is a handy player in all formats.

I guess Dhoni would like to remind himself how he created exit plan for Sachin, Saurabh, Gautam, Sehwag, Laxman and others. He might still wish to look innocent and despite pathetic strike rate and not so impressive wicket keeping, keep on doing tantrums, to impress emotionally vulnerable Indian cricket fans, the fact is that he has crossed his shelf life as cricketers. Now he should focus to use his popularity to milk money and fame in other areas.

very well said. Dhoni has already past his prime as far as international cricket is concerned... Let him continue to play for CSK in IPL where his more comfortable. He always put more efforts, shows lot of aggression while playing for CSK as compared to when he plays for India.
