Virat is great because he is captaining India and retaining it at No.1 which is no less task besides scoring huge. Also, he is being rested against weak teams which was not the case with Sachin. So Sachin made big scores against weak teams(with due respect, of course).
I think it's not fair to say sachin faced better bowlers than virat does now. I mean, what sachin got to bat against he dealt. Now, what virat is facing he is dealing with that. They can't pick their bowlers, do they? Both of them are great and sachin's record as a skipper is pathetic.
Jayprakashji, no comparison between Sachin and Virat. Malcom Marshall, Richard Hadley, Wasim Akram, Waquar Younis, Curtley Ambrose,Glein Mc.Grath, Gillespie, Warnie, Chaminda Vaas, Murlidharan, Alan Donald, Shaun Pollock- All the great bowlers Vs. Sachin Tendulkar. Undoubtedly, Virat is nowhere near to Sachin. Virat is playing against the club level bowlers having only10% capacity of those bowlers.
Though every Indian is in awe of Sachin, many a times if you see Virat playing, he looks quite better than Sachin in many places like his ability to win any game in any format in any position of the team. His ability to put a fear psychosis in the bowlers from the first ball itself as he is on go from the first ball. Sachin was never successful as a captain, but Virat is more successful once he became a captain. Sachin was not the best fielder as compared to Virat. Sachin had once said that anybody who would break his record, it would be Virat and true the way and form with which Virat is successful and playing, it won't be long before he either atleast reaches Sachin's record or breaks it. Virat's ability to inspire players is unique. Virat has a style and aggressiveness on his own and he makes any dull match looks exciting. So, all in all a winning situation for everybody in the stands whichever team you support. Such is his run power that every opponent loses the game in the middle of match mentally and then its all formality. As of today, he can face any bowler in the world with ease and there is no bowler in this world who knows his weakness or who can guarantee his wicket. The only difference probably for Sachin to be greater than Virat is that Sachin faced some of the world's best bowlers at their beak and best form, while Virat has all the while not faced any class bowler and whichever bowler or team he has faced is totally out of form.

Virat seems better because one day cricket has eased out a lot and average scores have gone up and hence the averages. Also the support players are better so more freedom on display. ABD is equally good may be not having the same record as Virat is on the rise but a much better striking ability which equalizes the impact on the game. Just see how many players are averaging over 50 these days and racking up 100s. If not for the age Hashim Amla was beating Kohli a while back for 100/ins. Sachin was unique and peerless in that sense. But bcz of our recent memory biases Virat will seem better.

You can't compare Virat with Sachin.Sachin was superior batsman.Don't go with the records. Modern format of cricket eases out pressure . When Sachin played, the situation was not so easy.

I would have loved to see Kohli facing Walsh, Ambrose, Warne, Mcgrath,Murali,Akram, Waqar...then the comparison is valid.

I think Vengsarkar was even greater that way as he faced Lille, Thomson, Garner, Croft, Marshall, Hadlee, Imran, Sarfaraz and used to regularly score centuries. We can say Sachin is great only when he plays against them.
