Pant is a player of two extremes. If he clicks, then he can be a match winner like he played in the last T20 match against WI. On the other hand, he does silly things to get out. He badly needs a good mentor. He needs to be in touch with anyone of the greats like Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly or Shewag and need to get tips from them on a regular basis. His problem is lack of maturity and not lack of talent. He surpassed Dhoni and hit 65 runs in T20, which is the maximum by any wicket keeper from India. Pant holds the record of the highest number of catches by a wicket keeper in a test innings along with AB de Villiers and Jack Russel and also the highest number of catches in a test series (20). He is the first Indian wicket keeper to score a century in England. He is the first Indian wicket keeper to score a century in Australia. Pressure mounted on him when he was not selected for the world cup squad since it did a demoralizing effect on his fluent way of batting. He started thinking that there is something seriously wrong with his batting/wicket keeping when he was omitted from the WC cup. Now he is in the process of correcting that mistake unknown to him and all his full blodded shots are becoming double minded shots which gets caught in the boundary area. Late inclusion in the WC squad did a lot of damage to his confidence. If he can make two well composed centuries in Test matches, that too in England and Australia, then the prob is with his deteriorating confidence level.
that pat failed does not mean he will fail again. One swallow does not make a summer. play him some more games. Tendulkar failed many times initially. those who talk such things should try to face just one ball from such high calibre bowlers.
Mr R pant had many opportunities at No.4 position. He does not have the temperament/technique to bat long at this position. In the next match you can try KL Rahul as the wicket Keeper batsman and he can play at No 4.Rahul Dravid had it earlier. Now that Shreyas Iyer has shown the temperament, he may be given some more chance to establish. Pl allow pant to play some domestic matches to learn the trick of the trade. You can also try CHHahar the medium pacer in the next match in the place of Kedar Yadav and bring in KL Rahul for the role WK/batsman at No 4. Good luck. The team management must consider these options as Pant does not have the temperament/technique at this level. He needs some more grooming .
