Ashwin didn't do any wrong
by Venkatasubramanyam on Sep 09, 2018 03:44 PM

He was brought on very late in the innings rather than pursued with him from one end.The field placements for him was pathetic & it was lack of confidence of his captain with him made him lose his confidence during his bowling stint. Our batsmen played very poorly against Moen Ali & gave him lot of wickets.Always Captain's confidence can only create bring out best performance from his players.

Disadvantage India

The advise and Opinion of E Prasanna is a very valuable but one thing he has forgotten is Ashwin did not have the luxury of bowling typical off-spinner because if he is hit in one over he is not sure of his next over. There was no strategy in place and there was a need to contain the runs. Moieen Ali did not have any thing to loose and our players did not play him well and it was not a pitch with venom where it was unplayable. Our players threw the wicket and did not negotiate his deliveries in the first innings and just a took a slender lead whereas India should have had 200 runs ahead of them. Batsman have to be blamed squarely and the opening was really pathetic. We should have played two spinners and with Jadeja we would won the match easily. Pandya was an extra luggage in that test. All that boils down is the poor team selection and both Virat and Ravi shastri has to take the blame.

"both Virat and Ravi shastri has to take the blame." virat's track record as captain is mediocre from preparation - in SA (weakest SA team till date and we lost 2-1) and England - casual approach to the tour. less said about shastri the better - who looks sloshed all the time after a night of partying

moin was better and indian batsmen were worse
by ans on Sep 06, 2018 11:19 PM

ashwin relies on variations and they were not a threat on this pitch and handled comfortably by english batsmen
moin relies on hitting the footmarks consistently and allow the pitch to do the rest. our batsmen had no answer and crumbled like cookies

Krishnan vs
Correct Selection
by Krishnan vs on Sep 06, 2018 09:50 PM

The Indian team management has a habit of breaking the momentum of many key players.. later they do not succeed and are labelled as bad players.

Some examples -
1. Karun Nair lost his momentum after he was not played in the next test after his triple hundred.

2. Yuvraj Singh played a test match in place of an injured Ganguly and hit a century. He was dropped in the next match when Ganguly came back. Later Yuvraj lost his momentum in tests and was labelled as a one day player.

3. Manoj Tiwary - hit centuries and took wickets in a series and he was promptly replaced by Rohit Sharma in the next series.
He never found his momentum after that.

4. Amit Mishra - By far he is the best spinner in India. The team management dropped him when he was at his best and now he is totally out of the radar.

LOST OPPORTUNITY FOR ASHWIN TO WIN FOR INDIA AS MOM
by damodaran mohan on Sep 06, 2018 05:38 PM  | Hide replies

I feel Ashwin lost most at Southampton by losing a golden opportunity to win the match for the country all by himself the way in seventies Chandra taking 6 wkts had won for India in England . It were sub continental conditions and there was enough purchase for spinners which MoeenAli exploited and beat Ashwin hands down. All that M/Ali did was to keep it simple--just keep bowling that nagging length ball after ball relentlessly to hit the rough and get the results! Some variations in speed and flight were there but he succeeded in making the batters play but make the ball do something after pitching on the rough and invariably the Indian batters including Virat faltered failing to use the feet sufficiently. It is difficult to believe Ashwin the fastest Test bowler to touch 200 wickets who bowled after M/Ali got 5 wkts in the 1st innings did not understand this simple thing. My perception is after he got 7 wkts in the 1st test and proved himself his body language changed. I do not know if it was because of the talks of Kuldeep getting precedence ahead of him or something else he did look very dispirited unlike the other team members who looked charged up. There was no intensity or the eagerness sen in his face to take wicket. There was no rhythm in his bowling with just ball released from his hand w/o the body bending effort as seen in the 1st Test. In fact it looked as if he took care to see the ball doesn't land on the rough—lands either short or over it .

Its the difference on batsmen
by Shankar Shankar on Sep 06, 2018 04:06 PM

Nothing different, wrong or correct. The English bats men played Ashwin well and Indians feared Ali for his old heroics against them. India are poor chasers in test specially in foreign countries. Look what happened after Kholi was out. Also English steamers always pick the openers quickly.

Playing Spinners
by MANOJ KUMAR on Sep 06, 2018 02:48 PM  | Hide replies

The defeat in Southampton England was due to -:
(1) Poor shot selection by Indian Batsmen while facing Moeen, he always thrived when Indian batsmen underrated him by playing aggresive
(2) India were one spinner short
(3) Lack of application by Indian openers
(4) Hardik Pandya's failure as a batsman
