Time to Pick Ranji succeed cricketers not IPL succed Cricketers

I been watching Indian Cricket since 1986 and this test team is the feeble batting Team. Except Kohli no other Batsman would feature in Best XI of last 30 years. While India is marching ahead in every aspects of Sports, cricket quality is deteriorating day by day.We have lost 2015 World Cup, 2016 T20 & 2017 Champions Trophy also. In last 12 tests in England we have lost 10 tests. Even countries like Pakistan have drawn test series in England.

Bring back Anil Kumble as Head Coach and remove Ravi Shastri who is good for nothing fellow himself had scored 3000 odd runs in his International career, how he would teach batsmanship. Give chances to Prithi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Manoj Tiwari, Kuldeep Yadav and see the results in future.
We having no dearth of talents only Politics in Indian Cricket resulting in such downfall.

Our Number one ranking is based on the tailor made pitches in India, where minows fake the roar of a lion, which we, the gullible take that of a world champ. Solution? Show them the door and reduce them to the level of our Hockey team. Encourage other Olympics Disciplines, which will atleast make young children follow the Olympics motto of "Citus Altius Fortius(Faster/Higher/Stronger).

Agree with you. India's Number 1 Test ranking is based on victories earned on Indian wickets. The team should be called Number 1 when it wins test series against all countries in home and abroad. For me, there are only two teams which are real number one in last 40 years - West Indies under Clive Lloyd and Australia under Steve Waugh. India have lost 10 test matches in England since 2011. Similarly lost to Australia 4-0 in 2011-12 and to South Africa 2-1 recently. Is this Number 1 Test Team?

Foolish bravado by Kohli
by rajarshi banerjee on Sep 03, 2018 12:31 AM  | Hide replies

Foolish bravado means little. Except for Trent bridge where we managed to win, India were completely outplayed by England in all the 3 other matches.

India never looked like winning in the 1st test or the latest one. Even when they were 140 for 2, it was a matter of just 1 or 2 wickets & then its just like pushing a cycle in a cycle stand. Wickets would fall in a heap & thats exactly what happened.

India needs to go back to the drawing board. The negative, over defensive mind set is the reason why we have lost the series & most likely it will be 4-1 against England. In none of the matches we have maintained a healthy test run rate of 3-3.5 which England have done consistently in all the 4 matches. Even in the previous game when they knew 500 was not going to be chased, they refused to throw in the towel. Batted with grit, there was a centurion in 4th innings & we had to come back on 5th day to pick up the last wicket inspite of the match being extended by 30mins to force a result. Thats precisely the difference between the 2 sides. We were scoring at the rate of barely 2 runs per over, its but natural that you will get a one unplayable delivery sooner or later. We never forced the pace to try & score quickly. Wickets would fall, we may have still lost like England did in the last game but then we could have proved a point or two.

Our batters don't know how to survive at the crease. They're not used to a game which lasts more than 20 overs !!

Very well said. In this Test, India were in commanding position many times. England were struggling at 87-6 in the first inning and still, managed healthy 246 due to some poor bowling by our pacers. Similarly, in the 1st inning, India were 181-4 and it should have put at least 350. India threw the opportunity with careless batting. Moen Ali's 5 wicket haul is virtually gift to him. In the Second India, India allowed England to make 271 after 92-4. While chasing 245, India had a great chance at 122-3 with Virat & Rahane fully set. There was absolutely no grit & determination among Indian batsmen. Indian tail starts after Rahane. India could win 3rd test largely due to Kohli's 97 & 103. Had Kohli failed in that match, India would have lost that match also!

The moment IPL starts many of the failures will be hailed by most who are criticising here.

It proved that it is a bunch of inconsistent individuals forming an inconsistent team.

Remove Hardik Pandya, Shastri, Dhawan, Rahane, Rahul, Pant I hate these faces in the Test Cricket. Take me and other street local boys. They score more than what these guys scored. Period.
