As always the England tour for India has always been massive. India in the past have won 3 series and drawn one but a well competed series though. Besides there have been nearly a dozen century and decisive innings by past greats making those India tours memorable. Question is will Capt Virat Kohli lead from front to join the honors’ list of likes of Ajit Wadekar,Kapil Dev, Saurav Ganguly,Rahul Dravid and other past greats with decisive innings to make the current tour too as memorable ? Given that Virat has evolved during the last four yrs into one of the best world cricketers and captain I think he is even in a better position to revive those happy memories although strength and contribution of the team as a whole will be as crucial. On the bowling front Virat certainly is better placed compared to all his predecessors even in the absence of Bhuvi. Undoubtedly it is one of the best Indian bowling attack ever to tour England looking at par if not better to challenge them with able support from the fielding/slip catching of course.Playing five specialist bowlers with tried and tested spin duo of Ashwin-jadeja should be the best bet at least for the 1st Test as a matter of reasoning. There could be the temptation to drop either Jadeja or Ashwin in favor of Kuldip. But both are match winners on their day and playing Kuldip will be more of a ‘gamble’ not reasoning one should avoid taking right at the start.

(contd.)The batting arsenal of Capt Virat certainly looks a tad leaner compared to the earlier Indian victors. But Virat’s brilliance and his aggressive captaincy of going all out for a win with his fierce pace attack ever should be motivation enough for other batters too to show the resolve to anchor and chip in with match winning innings. Besides, the tail will have to wag to stretch the innings for which Virat has the resources.
