i feel its unfait to compare Dhoni and Ganguly as both have given herculean service to Team India. Dhoni is a good captain and has won the world cup for India. If winning the world cup is the criteria then Dhoni is ahead of everyone. Ganguly got the team mirred with match fixing scandal and at a time no one wanted to lead India. He lead by example the brought India out of the match fixing saga & build a team of youngstars who could take on anyone on their day. This sense of aggression was new to indian team & he installed a confidence in youngstar and backed them. In larger context of the game gangulys captaincy is much more than how many trophies we won

i forgot to mention Yuvraj,kaif & Harbhajan. It so happened whenever Ganguly wanted harbhajan selectors used to dump Sarandeep singh on him. He fought tooth and nails with selectors to have harbhajan given an extended run.
However, while Dhoni and Kohli inherited a strong Indian team as captains, Sourav did not have any such luxury.
Some of the players who used to form the core of the Indian team were mired in the match-fixing controversy.
Sourav persisted with youngsters to fill in those slots as a result of which his winning percentage was low in the initial years.
Later, these cricketers played a significant role in ensuring the winning streak under Dhoni's captaincy.
Sourav's team was very similar to a start-up which was building a product and looking for core members; Dhoni's team was similar to such a setup receiving funding from investors; under Kohli, it is finally delivering returns for the investors.

what nonsense sourav inherited the team built by azharuddin....
rahul dravid, sachin tendulkar, ganguly himself, vvs laxman, kumble, bhajji srinath et all..all of these made their debut and/or played lot of their cricket under azharuddin...later because of charges of match fixing he was removed from captaincy....
but the above mentioned players were inherited by ganguly...
and the team currently playing in england ...nearly all of them barring a few made their debut under dhoni captaincy who gave them chance, encouraged them tutored them and handed the team over to kohli...dhoni had got all these players raw and kohli got them when most of these players were established and stars in their own rights...

i gave a list of players ganguly inherited from azharuddin....
kohli inherited team built by dhoni from scratch in all formats of the game...
i would like to point out dhoni did not get as many players in inheritance from ganguly....besides before dhoni got the inheritance you mention it had also passed through the hands of dravid and kumble...

And he did not have any batting weakness like the short ball and bouncers which was exploited by fast bowlers and which caused his below par average against Australia and South Africa

But his performance is much thn useless dhoni who cudnt mk even a single century outside Asia in 15 years. Even bowlers like kumble agarkar ashwin too made centuries OVERSEAS. Dhoni test average is pathetic outside Asia... hahaha

Look at it. And remove the wins against zimbabwe, and it comes down to just 5 tests won outside asia. ganguly was the one who was overrated. not the others. Dravid and Dhoni won two series outside, kumble had the great series in australia. ganguly was just average.

Ganguly drew test series in Aus whn they wr no 1 n legends in team. Dhoni shamelessly lost 15 tests against quality teams. If u think win against minnow wi a in absence of their brilliant players thn it shows ur knowledge in cricket. Dhoni is most overrated who ran away frm captaincy in Australia n lost odi series even against Bangladesh ...haha

dhoni played against the best teams at home and away...
60% of his tests home and away he played against eng aus and sa...ganguly did not play against these 3 teams so many times still he lost 10 away tests...one even to zimbabwe in zimbabwe...

But Zimbabwe was a strong team but dhoni lost to Bangladesh who wr thrashed even by Afghanista. So understand dhoni standard... hahaha no wonder he ran away with fear in Australia... hahahahaha
