many a times. He used to get out many a times trying to hit for second consecutive six. Reliance cup was lost because of him. In triangular nation cup kapil was after kitkat (high strikerate ) even if it was getting out in two balls(with one hitting for four and next out).

required by a Legend like Kapil..in fact he is demeaning himself when he is talking about comparison with Pandya. Pandya is ordinary club level cricketer found around every nook & corner of MUMBAI.

Pandya should play by his natural instincts and not by team demand. He is the future captain of india if kohli is dropped from his inability to handle captaincy for no .1 test playing nation.

Kapil also made silly mistakes
by Srinivas on Jan 18, 2018 05:10 PM  | Hide replies

Obviously, it is very premature to compare Pandya with Kapil and this comparison is more of a media creation than by players or experts.

However, it's quite strange to see this statement by Kapil. There were enough occasions when he let down the team through his silly shots which were quite a lot. Just to give 2 examples :

1. Caught by Mike Gatting at the midwicket boundary (right after Gatting placed himself there for precisely that shot) in the World Cup Semi Final of 1987.

2. Holed out to Allan Lamb in the Delhi Test vs England in 1984 - 85, when India needed to bat out time to save the match. In fact, as a punishment, he was dropped for the next Test in Kolkata.

This is not a defence of Pandya, but even legends have made mistakes during their playing time.

I appreciate the memory and two crucial instances when Kapil played and was caught brilliantly and eventually lost the game and missed the Final Cup, but still Kapilji is all time great and will remain great time to come. I rate him self made brave player it is not easy to remain fit for 15 long years of playing with lots of responsibilities and prestige of the country. Better two individuals should not be compared because they have played in two different time scale.

You are right. I never questioned Kapil's greatness. It's just that players do idiotic things in the field but find it easy to make statements off the field.

Don't we have so many ex-players who are now commentators/ selectors/ match referees etc. criticising players for precisely the same mistakes they made themselves ?

KAPIL DEV, THE GREATEST GREAT ICON OF INDIAN TEAM
by subrata banerjee on Jan 18, 2018 03:36 PM

Kapil dev is Kapil dev. No one can dream to come close to his stature. To play non cricketing shot in T20 is not wanted in test match where is fielding position is not restricted to ease the batsmen to go for ugly, non cricketing shots. What to speak of Hardik, no one in present indian team can dream to come close to him. I watched kapil deb closely by witnessing many matches on the ground. It was a great pleasure to see the disciplined run up in every delivery with controlled swing or cutter on great line and length. Believe me, he would have got much more wickets, had there been one Srinath or Md.shami on the other end. He used to beat batsmen's defense and missed the outside edge of the bat many many times. It was rare for batsmen to expect a bad delivery from kapil deb. About his batting what we can say? Please be informed what Gavaskar said about batting ability of kapil deb. Gavaskar openly said that kapil is far better batsman than me and he can score huge runs, provided kapil he keeps his temperament cool. It was our almost regular experience that kapil came to bat and start playing any short of bowling pace or spin with great ease. And most of the time he used to reach 30/40 with his fluent batting. BUT his temperament as batsman was not good test batting. Forget his great historical batting against zimbabwe which helped india to go the semi final round and ultimately won world cup. He scored many centuries but could have more centuries at his own sweet will.
