INEFFICIENT COACH

Indian Coach should have consulted the players who have played well in South Africa. In that way Sehwag suggestions are correct

Agree.. Shastri as a coach is hillarious who himself used to wet in pant seeing courtney walsh and patrick patterson in W Indies pitches .. Now he is coaching indian batsman on how to play on seaming track .. The way he sits in the dressing room with short and specs shows he has gone there to enjoy and booze for which he is known for ..

Opening Test Loss
by k lakshminarayana on Jan 11, 2018 03:40 PM  | Hide replies

If we were to have a 'crisis man like VVS', we could have won the first test. Most of our key batsman do not know how to play in tough matches or they just play for money and records.

What happened in 1st Test was bound to happen! With no practice game before 1st Test coupled with inability of our batsmen to negotiate swing and bounce on SA wickets naturally resulted into India losing the test. The only batsman in the team who can handle swing and pace comfortably is Rahane. But he was sidelined to accommodate Rohit Sharma who has never proved his credentials outside sub-continent. Rohit Sharma's and Virat Kohli's recent heroic(?) performance against substandard SL team should not have been given any weightage. Instead, media hyped it so much! Virat said that Rohit was preferred on current performance! He simply ignored the fact that Rahane has always played better on foreign soils than on Indian wickets! After all, Rahane was vice-caption of the team and you are dumping him in the very first test match of the crucial series!

Not a surprise

It is the media hype and commercialization, else no surprise. Hosts has the advantages to prepare pitches to their strength. However, we should be proud of our batting line only when they perform in conditions of Aussies, South African, English etc. If one looks at current Indian batting strength, except Kohli, rest of the batsmen even average 25 - 30 runs in this series, it will be a windfall.

Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman and Tendulkar. If you leave these four players tell me one player who has consistently scored in foreign pitches over the last 30 years. Dravid the wall was only consistent player who won many matches abroad and laxman the magician. Even the selfish Tendulkar did not play when it mattered. He scored many hundred but never saved a game like steve Waugh. Learn to live in reality Indian batsman are not good on fast pitches. That Rohit Sharma is a third rate chap hyped by media who only plays good on flat and low bounce pitches in India. Except Kohli, Rahane and to some extent K Rahul.. this Indian team is mediocre on fast live pitches

Add Sunil Gavaskar ,Mohinder Amarnath & Gundappa Vishwanath before Tendulkar/Dravid era. These were the only batsmen who could play real fast bowling.Even guys like Vengsarkar who was good in ENG but failed against the fearsome WI attack of the 80s.

Very well said! In the current team, only Rahane is capable of tackling swing and bounce of SA pitches. Kohli is always susceptible against swing though he can handle the bounce... Kohli says that Rohit Sharma has been preferred over Rahane on current form! Which current form? scoring against sub-standard SL bowling attack on Indian pitches?... Can anybody give me an example when a vice-caption of the cricket team was dropped in the first test match of the Test series?

Rightly said. No one plays on front foot. The pace is so much ...they can only play to the slip.

Why Shewag is so pessimistic
by Jayaprakash Balan on Jan 11, 2018 12:24 PM  | Hide replies

Shewag should not be pessimistic about this Indian team because they are far better than the day when Indian team had players like him. Atleast today's Indian team has a fighting spirit and winning attitude. Well, just losing one match doesn't mean we have gone less or down. Indian team is anytime better than South Africa or any other team in this world even if it is consecutive losing 4 - 5 matches or any tournament. The best outcome of the past year is that our lower players have learn to bowl and bat and play according to the situation. Can you imagine Bhubaneshwar Kumar, Ashwin, Bumrah defending the bowling so well when even top South AFrican batsmen could not stay put in the crease. And with Dale Styne out of series, India definitely has chance to win the next two. South Africa doesn't have any quality batsmen except Amla, Flusesis and De Villers. Even Amla is out of form and flop. Shewag should wait for another match or two before giving only 30% chance for India. Virat and his team will perform very well.

playing in dusty slow and spin tracks in india is not heroism Mr balan. So don't live in your world.. Cricket was invented and played for at least a century on paced pitch till indians developed slow pitches to promote the commercial aspect of the game and make BCCI and players rich with entertainment .. Wrestling is not what played in WWE , but on mat .. Similarly cricket is not about batsmen hitting on slow tracks , but providing both bat and ball equal chance which we see in Australia, SA, england and NZ pitches ..

Well said! Playing Test cricket in India/Sri Lanka is quite different from playing in SA/Eng/Aus/NZ where a great deal of skill and temperament is required to tackle fast bowling. Fortunately, this cricket team did not face fast bowlers of caliber of Mcgrath, Donald, Walsh, Ambrose, Waqar, Imaran, Akram etc and otherwise, test careers of Dhawan, Rohit etc. would have finished long back!

still looks bewildered !

Apparently, the man had swallowed every bit of the hype made by the Indian media about the supposed invincibility of the Indian cricket team !

Oh, why do these South Africans have to act against the script ????
