Sachin Tendulkar a media creation for advertisements
by Rajesh Chheda on Mar 03, 2018 05:04 PM

Look at Sachin Tendulkar's record as Captain....utter failure. Look at his only 200 that he made in ODI, Mahendra Singh Dhoni 50 runs and SRT 2 runs. Sachin Tendulkar was never caught in any match fixing which was rampant...why? Any columnist questioning or criticizing his performance was dropped by the publication...why? Sachin promoted dubious scamsters like HOMETRADE, Flop products like Fiat Palio a third grade product bet you won't find Fiat Palio on roads because all are junked. Sachin Tendulkar's overseas record is disastrous and yet no criticism of him. Due to power of corporates advertisers they built a brand that made money, pressurized BCCI never to drop him, fixed matches so SRT could have world records.

GERA KISHORE KUMAR
A great player only
by GERA KISHORE KUMAR on Mar 03, 2018 03:08 AM

Sachin was a great player but not genius. Among his contemporaries, Kallis had better batting average than his batting average with 44 centuries, just 7 short of Sachin's tally. When Kallis announced his retirement, he was in great form and in farewell series against India, he scored a double century also. Moreover Kallis had bowling duty also with more than 300 test wickets.

Sachin had great media coverage in his favor apart from Gavaskar's continuous praising from commentary box. The media coverage was so extent which was clearly visible in an IPL match where Ambati Rayudu scored more runs than Sachin's with faster scoring rate. Yet media focus was on Sachin only and surprisingly he was declared Man of the Match.

No comparison with Don Bradman. No doubt Bradman had not tight schedule as someone mentioned, but during those days, travelling was not that much convenient and they had traveled by ship also which was lengthy and strenuous. Bradman had a long gap because of II World War and if there was no such gap, it is unimaginable how many centuries he could have made. In Bradman era, there were no protective guards. Remember Bodyline series in which also Bradman scored centuries.

As a person, Sachin was tax evader. He was not ready to pay the tax from his enormous wealth for his gifted Ferrari car and sought for tax exemption.

For Charity, Steve Waugh could come all the way from Australia to fund street children which our players could not do.

What I said is not true?

He is great
by mayur makwana on Mar 02, 2018 11:04 PM

Right from the age of 16 when he faced Imran, Botham, Hadlee then after that played agasinst all best bowler of the world like Akram, Wakar, Qadir, Bretlee, Mcgrath , warne, south africa. Ambrose, Walshand to reach century of century itself suggest he is great. He was not great captain like Dada

Now in current cricket tell me any of great bowler which you pur his name in above bowler catogory, i doubt none.

So he is great. No doubt he was not match winner like Yuvi, Dravid, Laxman bue he was n remain to be great.

It is silly to ask this type of question

No, he is not.

He was a typical cricketer. But he got more media attention than he deserves.

I still feel Viv Richards is the best batsman of modern cricket.

I am a fan of SRT myself and enjoyed his batting whenever he played. But I would not agree that he is "The Best" of all - perhaps he is one of several, India produced - right from Maharaja Ranjitsinhji to Virat Kohli. In fact the current generation are bettering in every format of the game - not just tests or ODI's. I am sure, these current "great" players will be eclipsed one day and that's what we want too for the game to flourish.

So, by any means - by statistics, skill, his contributions back to the game (particularly post retirement), I don't believe SRT is "The Best" but one of several such players.

I will be really surprised if someone who had played for 23 years (or allowed to play sometimes IMO), if he did not accumulate that kind of records. Few others who had potential, if given equal number of opportunities would have surely bettered those stats. But stats is not the only important thing to judge someone - isn't it?

We must realize that he is made partly with his skill and partly by media and a little by politics - unlike other "sports greats".

In summary - I agree, he was an entertainer. We all enjoyed his batting prowess and he would remain one of the best of a lot that is ever growing.
