dhoni has created a fantastic team from scratch in all formats of the game...the players he introduced, gave support confidence and groomed have developed into fantastic players...people say ganguly gave opener sehwag...dhoni has given openers vijay rohit dhawan rahul....when dhoni made rohit and dhawan openers in odis and gave them chances many people criticised him...i told many times that these two are india's best odi openers till date with only sachin ganguly pair coming close...rohit has averages 50 plus as an opener for the last 5-6 years...same for dhawan who has been a great odi opener and the first 3 batsmen rohit dhawan kohli have been giving great starts continuously for the last 4-5 years...so much so that next batsmen get very few chances to score big in the last few years....people criticize dhoni that he has not scored much in the last few years but what chances has he been getting for the last few years..by the time he comes to bat not much deliveries remain for him...sometimes he is sent even after rahane iyer pandya...in such cases it is foolish to expect big scores from him...whatever few chances he gets when early wickets fell he has rarely failed to score big...

our first 3 odi batsmen remind of the old wi batsmen...greendige haynes and vivian richards...

ROHIT AS OPENER RISKY.BETTER IN 5-7 TO ACCELERATE IN END
by damodaran mohan on Feb 15, 2018 02:34 PM

Congrats to Virat & co. for registering the 1st Indian series win SA ever.Though Virat led the team well taking even some bold decisions but it is not correct that it was a perfect team effort. The spin twin of Chahal and Kuldeep made all the difference between the two sides with the Proteas depleted of full strength too.The brittle m.o Indian batting hardly looks reassuring looking to the 2019 WC.Even the 5-7 positions unable to accelerate adequately towards finish with a flourish is a greater concern. Pandya, the pacer all-rounder looks good attitude wise but is highly inconsistent both with bat and ball needing to sharpen skill further.Coming to Rohit inspite of his belated century he looks a dicey proposition as opener given his somewhat lazy stance and approach in crunch k.o games in WC, CH trophy etc. He will be better strengthening the 5-7 position along with Rahul that will help final acceleration in the death overs.Rahane can open with Dhawan.Dhoni is too slow to wield his bat to the rushing ball thus failing to connect and middle his shot slowing down the run rate at crucial end phase. So all in all the bating is still work in progress.Only one area ready for WC with adequate bench strength is bowling. That is certainly a big plus.

Indian team with two wrist spinners is looking good,

but the middle order batting is remain the worry factor. no consistency.

I think Manish Pande, K.L Rahul must play instead of Kedhar Jadhav and Shreyas Iyer

rohit will always struggle when the ball is moving. Hes a fat track bully. unless India finds a solid middle order player winning the world cup will be a distant dream. Rahane and Shreyas Aiyar is average and not a long term bet
