Sunny’s anger is understandable given he had predicted 3-0 series win for India. Now the series result has gone for a toss after the big defeat by a side that was written off by the Australians themselves! Virat as Captain needs to be more balanced taking decisions by head than by heart riding on overconfidence. Besides, it appears he has been taken for a ride by the Aussies with green grass on pitch making him omit a spinner. But the biggest problem Virat faces is team batting especially the openers. The initial 1 hr conditions for openers are indeed very tough with even Prithvi Shaw chickening out. Only the best both mentally and technically can survive in these conditions.. Any team revival to a large extent will depend on a robust opening and the team being able to put at least 250 runs on the board. The worry is not just pace attack but the way batters without exceptions---VIRAT,Rahane,Vijaya, Pujara…are playing the spin like novices! Either you reach to the pitch of the ball or play late from crease. How can you drive or play defensive with ball pitching good over 1 away! It is taking chance since trajectory after pitching is unpredictable .So what next ? A spinner is a must, preferably Ashwin who could bat too to put pressure from one end for 3 pacers to operate and take wkts from the other end. Openers. Hanuman Vihari or Mayank Agarwal could be tried along with Murali Vijay as openers.
