CHALLENGE TO FILL THE BIG BATTING HOLE OR RATHER CRATOR.
by damodaran mohan on Aug 05, 2018 05:51 PM

As the saying goes'morning shows the day', Karthik getting out to the very 2nd ball was enough of an indicator of the things to come. His bat position was that played in shorter formats with hardly any slip fielders that would have fetched him a four!Doesn't he understand this fundamental difference coming to play tests?W/o proper defense he should simply forget playing tests.Hardik too got out in the same fashion but he certainly applied himself better. They should learn from Virat how to negate the swing using straight bat, soft handle etc.Ben Stokes is the most dangerous bowler and Virat too could have been cautious taken care to play straight rather than trying to deflect towards leg.Anyway after his brilliant innings one can't find fault with him because such mistakes can occur even with the best.Given now that team India has become one man bating army how do they select the 5-6 batters for the next game ? Draw of lots !Let one thing be clear w/o solid defense one can't survive in these conditions.Bowling unit did deliver for sure and not much to worry except to come up with the right combo. There appears a case for jadeja's inclusion as the English look too vulnerable to spin.Shami bowled well but seems to deliver whenever he chooses not when the situation demands when he suddenly bowls erratic short deliveries making WK's life miserable to dole out easy fours relieving the pressure of the batting side.India will have to find ways to improve batting or face humiliation.

What is our coach doing?
by shib sankar on Aug 05, 2018 01:32 AM

I have been watching cricket for more than 30 years and with his skill, determination, work ethics and mental strength Kohli is the best Indian batsman I have seen. Leave aside Kohli, everyone says India has a bunch of very talented batsmen in the form of Rahul, Dhawan, Rahane, Rohit...Can't our coach align their technique to play swing bowling? Why do e need him then. 3 players played county cricket to prepare for the series. We have seen the performance of Aswin and Ishant. What we have done with the third player Pujara. Left him out knowing fully well that he is ranked no.5 among the batsmen, has the temperament for test cricket..

Aggressiveness
by Chinna - Gurappa on Aug 04, 2018 11:43 PM

Kohli should reduce his aggressiveness and play the game. How the best batsmen getting out for LBW. This means he doesn't have proper planning to play.

Very late realisation mr. avinash. better late than never. in fact most of the present indian cricket team is good for 20-20 match and not for test.
Rahul, dhwan are the batsmen who can score fluently when there is restrictions on fielding side. most of the fielders should stand nearest to the wicket and the batsmen will hit bowlers reckless. that is limited over cricket and we pay them huge huge money for this. wastage of money.
look at dhawan. leave apart his dismal batting performance and look at his fielding in slip zone. How many catches he dropped there? Is he fit to stand in slip cordon? i feel NO. In fact, India fielding was poorest poor
and dropped dozen catches mostly against pace. Bad luck shami and umesh.

As you sow you reap. India got the result of flawed team selection & some bad experiments.

I agree with you on some of the changes but not all. Dhawan & Murali Vijay have to be given one more chance while Pujara has to come back into the side. If Dhawan is to be dropped then KL Rahul has to play as an opener. Dhawan is guilty of dropping too many catches in the slips & can't take his place for granted. Rohit unfortunately is not part of the Test squad & is terribly hurt because of this. In case Dhawan is played then KL Rahul should play at number 5 & Pant needs to be blooded in place of Dinesh Karthik who is a hopeless wicket keeper & a non impactful batsman. Ishant, Shami & Yadav select themselves. Hardik should be dropped & Kuldeep given a chance. If KL plays as an opener then Hardik can be retained for one more game. Karun Nair may also have to be given a game as the batting is looking too thin at the moment.

Kohli Vs England
by Venkatachalam on Aug 04, 2018 07:51 PM

The test match was very interesting swinging from one side to another. India did well to restrict Englands first iniings and then fought back to come within overhaling Englands total thanks to Kohli's brilliance. In the 2nd innings England was tottering but then the young Cullen fought brilliantly to give England some chance. The hosts closed the game in 3 and quarter days. Well done bot the teams. Augurs well for the remaining 4 tests.
