INDIAN CRICKET HAS STEADILY RISEN SINCE THE 70-80s

Compliments to Rediff for presenting interesting statistics. The data clearly reflects phenomenal improvement of standard of cricket in India in the last 10yrs although Indian cricket had started becoming competitive in the world since Gavaskar days in the 70s and then after the Kapil's devils 1983 WC win. Then as captains Azar, Ganguly and Dhoni made their mark and Indian cricket took off in world cricket for sure with Virat Kohli now taking team India to another level. Of course Sachin Tendulkar was the common thread of inspiration running through this period of Indian cricket renaissance that inspired millions of young cricket fans making cricket a religion in our country. Some interesting points emerging from the tables are:1Virat Kohli is likely to break all records and is poised to become all-time best captain of India and possibly of the world.2.It will be interesting to check which Indian captain played max Draws. I think it had to be our cricketer IAS(I am safe) Sunil Gavaskar and even otherwise earlier times there were more Draws.3.From the two Tables on fastest 300 wickets it is very evident that even our best pacers Kapil and Zaheer who emerged in as late as 80s-90s were nowhere near the best in the world and has to be main reason for poor Indian Test standard/wins. Let’s hope this is going to change w.e.f. 2018.Moral of the story: So BCCI must develop more such world class pacers of world standards preparing fast tracks like the one in Eden gardens at pr

(CONTD.)..in Eden gardens at present.4.Ashwin’s achievement in his short span of career has been phenomenal breaking all records of not just his immediate illustrious predecessor but also overshadowing even our more famous spin quartet. But the effect is yet to sink in not getting the due recognition he deserves.

Very interesting statistics. It is worthy to take losses percentage also to compare as in the earlier periods drawn matches are good in number. Forcing draw also is to ensure not to lose though not winning and that will be also great rather than losing the game. Hearty congrats to Kohli and I wish that he will be equalling the no. of wins by Ganguly before climbing further to surpass Dhoni's record
