The main reason why he has not been a regular in Tests is he is just not interested the can't care less fashion he plays in Tests.Let there be no doubt that there are some cricketers like Rohit who are very talented alright but are lazy and do not want to take the trouble of playing 5 days because just in IPL and shorter formats they make enough money.Once he is selected for SA tour to play an extra batsman then bowling will suffer.I think alternative will be to keep the option of 4 and half bowler with a pacer all rounder to partly cover batting allowing 2 and half pacer and 2 spinner in place of 5 bowlers.Another option is 3 pacers,1 spinner and one pacer all rounder. But playing a pure extra batsman like Rohit who comes good once in 15 innings is going to weaken the bowling attack for sure.
