No, the batsman should not be allowed to consult dressing room or supporters. It has to be their own instinct and confidence. Else what is the use of their skill as batsman or bowler. Even long discussion with their runner up batsman should not be allowed. It should be just a quick ask to the runner up and take the decision. Dilruwan Pereira has cheated and he should be fined. Either way he is not any class star batsman like Smith that his role is crucial to Sri Lanka. He doesn't even know to bat properly and was awkwardly tackling Indian bowlers.

Should batsmen be allowed to consult dressing room?

Manjrekar speaks as a batsman! The game is already weighed heavily in favour of batsmen and this should not be allowed. In fact the beauty of Cricket is in playing it as a gentleman's game and the DRS should be banned. The game is designed with 2 on-field umpires and their words should be final and gentlemen should go ahead with the game accepting it.
