In no way Ashwin is comparable with Muralitharan. Murali is a great spinner of the ball at any conditions & is a consistent performer not only n Test Matches even in one dayers.

But Ashwin on the other hand he can take wickets only in sub continents. He is not a match winner in foriegn countries like SA,NZ,Australia, England pitches.

After 5 years of entering into international scenerio, he has performed only once in abroad against WI in a just concluded series last month. But otherwise he has to improve a lot to compete with Murali. The only difference Murali cannot bat like Ashwin. Otherwise no body can match Murali. Muthaiah is Muthaiah.

Ashwin is a bully on spinning tracks
by Srinivas on Jan 18, 2017 07:33 PM

Ashwin has a bowling average of around 20 in India and > 35 abroad. This is possibly one of the highest such differences for an international cricketer and just shows his reliance on a friendly track to deliver results. No wonder Harbhajan Singh commented about how he could have done much more had he got such wickets during his playing days.

Ashwin needs to prove himself in alien conditions before he can be considered a great bowler.

That discussion apart, better to analyze the reasons for his wicket-less matches in ODIs and T-20s and ways to alter such eventualities against Aussies and SA.

I think we make too much of him.He is as good as the pitch that helps him. I think he avoids domestic cricket now because he gets thrashed by rank amateurs.
