Dhoni is a gr8 captain .. But i would say Ganguly nurtured more talent than Dhoni ... The quality of players and teams are much better during Ganguly era than Dhoni Era.. The gr8 players that emerged during Ganguly tenure are much better and way above the quality of players that emerged during Dhoni era .. But Dhoni has left his own mark in Indian Cricket .. no doubt
Thank you for observing Ganguly contributing mot many in Indian Cricket, although Dhoni himself was his find. Ganguly was the first to fight for the cause of India, searched for players on merit not like those selected previously on the basis of their connections. There are examples galore how players were selected before him. He has broken the shackles. Ganguly has started modernity and fair treatment in Indian Cricket. Ganguly has been shaken off when he was at his prime saying he was old and now old Dhoni is being cherished without recourse to his age. Ganguly being from Bangal will never be well documented, never given the honor he deserves.

Kohli said that 90% of present team members have started their careers under Dhoni's leadership and they all are very good finds. Such as Kohli, Rahane, Ashwin, Jadeja, Dhawan, Rohit, Bhuvneshwar etc. So Dhoni has contributed immensely in making such a strong team. It is pity that still Ganguly has been seen as a person who found talents. But the stats show the different story. Apart from 2-3 persons founded by Ganguly, none other succeeded.

yes absolutely correct...after the retirement of legends of previous generation dhoni has built up a fantastic team from scratch in all 3 formats of the game....
Only a few like yuvraj sehwag zaheer dhoni who made their debut under ganguly have been a success...the rest just faded away...
and if ganguly gave opener sehwag...dhoni gave murali vijay and dhawan/rahul in tests and rohit and dhawan in odis...if ganguly gave zaheer dhoni gave shami bhuvanesh bumrah yadav ashwin jadeja etc...
apart from 3-4 players ganguly did not unearth much talent....and he got the readymade team of azhar...sachin dravid laxman ganguly himself harbhajan kumble nehra srinath etc...
dhoni's new look india team performed creditably when they went abroad the first time to sa nz eng and aus...apart from dhoni kohli and ishant the rest played overseas for the first time in their life and still created chances to win test matches..in the very first test against sa we came close to winning...next series against nz again we came close to winning a test though mcculum thwarted it...finally we won a test in england and later also put up a good show in aus... a sea change from 8-0 previously consisting of older legends...the test win against england at lords had all new players under dhoni...vijay, dhawan, pujara, kohli, rahane, dhoni binny jadeja bhuvanesh shami ishant..we won the test by 95 runs with ishant sharma taking 7 wickets in the last innings of the test....

Name a single player in this team who has contributed India winning a world cup or wining a test match in SA/AUS/NZ... Can they match Sewhag, Zaheer, Yuvi, Harbhajan, Laxman, Nehraetc? Answer is clear no. This team groomed by MSD can win only against minnows and in home soil.
