Kane Williamson is one of the best batsman in the current era, better than the more publicized batsmen like Smith, De Villiers, Kohli, looking to the quality of opposing bowlers he has to face. I agree with Ahuja that Gayle, Kapil Sharma( reality show) are favourites of the brash minority, but unless the silent majority opens its mouth, or takes the pen in its hands,the big mouthed characters will continue to rule the space. Williamson's game is a rarity it is not big hitting but perfect timing,placement, wrist play are his strong points, but unfortunately he fails to garner praise from the critics, ex cricketers, media because he lacks the chest beating habit of some of today's sports person.
IPL & every sport today loves its show offs. Whether it is the notorious Krygios(tennis), big mouthed Smith and Kohli( cricket), loud talking American basketball players, because they are rated as exciting by many of the current era. Williamson & Root are 2 players whom the connoisseurs of cricket will praise, but unfortunately today the lure of money is so much that many of these our ex-cricketers too have joined the brand wagon of the brash Australian and a certain Delhi brat. However thanks to Rediff for publishing in praise of a rare gem of a gentleman- Williamson.
