A quixotic selection based on loyalty to Aussie cricketers. That way, even Sehwag changed the way openers roles are perceived and also single handedly started the revolution in Test batting by making it more aggressive. He was more innovative than Sachin in that respect. Waugh was supposed to be a highly knowledgeable cricketer, but now we're getting doubts.
No doubt Gilchrist is a game changer in both Test cricket and ODIs. Greatest wicket keeper batsman. Next is Kallis with his alround abilities. If he continued for 1-2 years, he could have passed Sachin's Test record centuries.
If Waugh thinks Gilchrist changed the trend, his bias towards a fellow Australian is evident. Otherwise who can forget the contributions of Engineer, Walcott, Knott etc.they were all great keepers as well as great batsmen.
