MAK Pataudi the most overrated captain in history
by V Kumar on Oct 06, 2016 10:11 AM

Its laughable that Mak Pataudi's 9 wins in 40 matches over 12 years is even considered a "record" This man has the worst captaincy record in history for anyone at the helm for this length of time.Thrashed 2 - 0 by Gary Sobers in 1966, annihilated by England in 1967 by 3 - 0 , overwhelmed by Aussies 4 -0 in 1968 and again in 69-70 at home. Unable to win a single match in 63-64 against a second eleven MCC - why is this man even considered a good captain indeed sometimes a great captain with such a rotten record. And in this last three series his batting was a joke.

IT IS INDEED KOHLI'S SERIES.

It is truly Kohli's series in the sense that his crucial decisions as captain made all the difference in winning the series. His decision to bring in Bhuvi based on assessment of the conditions at Eden was a master stroke. Then his persistent interaction with bowlers on field setting and the single minded pursuit motivating the team members for a win is simply remarkable. However one not very positive aspect in spite of attaining No1 position ironically is batting of the side on the whole right from WI series which is still a concern. In fact virtually the lower order have been mainly contributing besides Rohit playing a match winning innings at EG. Now he will flunk for the next 15 Tests for sure ? On the other hand Indian bowling never had so good a run especially the pacers. Shami is at his best and if only Bhuvi could increase his pace by another 10 Km he could be No.1 bowler in the world. May be he should take NV if he is not taking or take more if he is already taking and increase his stamina. Now coming back to batting Murali Vijaya needs to be more agile to prove himself against difficult conditions too and quality attack with technique, defense, feet movement etc. At EG the conditions were tough for batting and only the likes of Rohit and Kohli could master it. Some explanation is needed from SG because it was certainly not a sporting wicket as he was trying to pass it on as. He should pay more attention on such a critical aspect as pitch.

(contd.)Local boy and Wk W/Saha did splendid job both with bat and wicket keeping under difficult conditions. Ashwin as usual was brilliant with ball but as an all-rounder unlucky to miss a fiver and with bat too. Time to switch to DRS. KIWIS? They look far better at adapting to ‘conditions’ than the Proteas. It is inexperienced side but one of the best Kiwis side visiting India with promising youngsters like KW, Santner,Ronci,Latham.Henry….
