Well, it is a forgone conclusion that Ashwin can take wickets only when the pitch is assisting spin. On flat pitches, he looks like a club class bowler. Even on spin friendly wickets, he gets wickets due to batsman's mistakes and not because of his bowling skills.

that true for every bowler. Even quicks are effective when there is swing offered. On flat pitch every bowler struggles.
