Test players from Odisha
by AKPC Swain on Nov 17, 2016 06:33 AM

The government of Odisha should ponder over the issues why Odisha cricket players do not compete effectively to be in the test side. The test careers of Das and Mohanty were short lived.

Gambhir
by AKPC Swain on Nov 17, 2016 06:28 AM

It seems if Gambhir is not in playing in vizag test, his test career is almost over.It is unfortunate ,but in competitions it happens.Gambhir should improve his skill and natural play to fight back his claim in the side.

Venue for test matches
by AKPC Swain on Nov 17, 2016 06:20 AM

When rightly Rajkot and Vizag are awarded test match venues ,why not Barabati venue in Odisha? Is It political ?

The profit of from the current test matches between India and England should go partially to the families of security officers and Army personnel who sacrificed their lives when fighting against rogue Pakistan Army.

Tough times ahead
by prabhat Shukla on Nov 15, 2016 06:27 PM

I think Kohli will lose his first test series. Spin or no spin India batting is weak, and bowling has no claws. English players are applying themselves well against our so call genius spinners while our batsman cant stand upto to there part-timers. Relief for Kholi and company that KL is back. Lookslike Ashwin has too much focus on his batting and not his bowling.

EVEN THE CURATOR IS NOT SURE ABOUT THE WICKET..?-I
by damodaran mohan on Nov 15, 2016 06:22 PM  | Hide replies

I have no doubt that even the curator is not sure how the wicket will behave going by the Ranji and the last Ind-NZ Test match. After all he has to say something to justify his position. All that we know is it is a newly prepared wicket and is going to be an acid test for the 22 men in the center. So it is upto the individual abilities and acumen of the bowler and batter to adapt to get best out of it. It is for them individually and as a team to not look silly after the match trying to pin the blame on the track because both teams are playing on the same track. Yes, Toss could be crucial but that is part of the game one has to accept. So based on Rajkot what can we expect and how should the rival teams approach the game ? One, the Brits have the psychological advantage for sure but one main reason for that was half a dozen dropped catches by India that too half of them right at the start! To me one, the close-in fielders look less alert and two on to the right side catching the cupped hand should be brought against and not along the direction of the travel of the ball. The close-in fielder must intently watch the ball travel from the bowler to the point of contact with the bat and after. Only then he is likely to instinctively get to the ball in time to catch it. Coming to batting the English comparatively bat deeper and thus have an edge at least over Indian batting. Inclusion of Rahul becomes essential given Rahane’s atrocious defending.

(contd.)Virat is India’s main stay but one plus for Indian batting is both Pujara and Vijay look much more confident than they ever looked in the past. In fact it was Murali Vijay’s best innings I have seen except that he is getting out to spinners with his defensive jab to close-in fielder on the leg-side in identical fashion (3 times!). Coming to pace bowling it looks equal with J/Anderson likely to join the English. On the spin side on paper at least India looks better provided Ashwin & co. believe so. It is going to be more of a mental game of chess of cleaver anticipation of the move of the batter –if the batter is going to use hid feat or sweep etc. but our bowlers must make them play the way you want them . I feel our spinners bowled well in Rajkot under unhelpful conditions and they need not feel disheartened because the brits adapted well and played well. I feel Adil Rashid could be the main threat against whom our batters like Murali Vijay, Rahane etc. will have to come up with right answers. Remaining two too look good but not that potent.

Nearly half of English team consists of Pakistani origin players. Some times it is confusing whether is India playing against England or against Pakistan

Vijay, Pujara, Kohli and Gambhir are as good against spin as any in the world. Rahane is good but he can be vulnerable on turning tracks.
