INDIAN TOP ORDER BATTING NEEDS TO PERFORM

India certainly have an edge at home with spinners in top form but England cannot be taken lightly as they are coming after passing through a tough 'spin test' in Bangladesh. That must have given them quite a bit of practice in playing in these Indian conditions and the likes of Cook, Root, Stokes ...could prove difficult customers. Even Bairstow looked quite compact with bat in B'desh. Coming to bowling, w/o J/Anderson and Broad looking a pale shadow of his former self the pace attack looks to lack the sting . Going by their B’desh performance on these conditions they do not look that effective. However Indian batters should be positive playing their spinners and not get bogged like the B'deshis did allowing Moen Ali, Gareth Batty ..to dominate. They might not be formidable but they are no push overs too. Why I say this is in the last two series against WI and NZ the top order batting was not at its best dependent too much on one man Virat Kohli . Mostly the lower order came to the rescue. But it can't happen every time although our bowling both pace and spin attack looks at its best in recent times. Moreover given Virat’s faith in the positive 5-bowler winning mantra the batting has to come good. For a No 1 Test side it should be able to put up a total of 450-500 otherwise the team mostly is dependent on its spinners to get the opponent out for low totals for a win. It could also be argued that 450-500 totals are passÃ© in Test
