That thread was way too long to spot my reply.. So, here it is.. First up, I can never discount the ability of Shami to get us a wicket when demanded..
But we have an embarrassment of riches which is a blessing in disguise. Unlike black caps, pommies are NO pushover.. They pull, cut and hook effectively..
You need a guy who can extract steep bounce from good length area.. The English can manage reverse swing, movement of the deck, early morning swing and so on and so forth.
Ishant is the only guy who can extract a disconcerting bounce from a length. If Kohli decides to play 3 spinners then the axe can fall on Shami.
That's all I said. It's my personal opinion though. The final squad could be different..

no argument with that...my only point was that how can we consider pandya as specialist bowler? he has not played much first class cricket....he is just like stuart binny....bat a little and bowl a little....i only said shami and pandya are 1.5 bowlers not 2 bowlers..

shami and ishant are 2 bowlers...but not ishant and pandya or shami and pandya...in the later case it is just 1bowler 1/2 bowler...
a specialist bowler should be able to take at least 3 wickets per test average...which i doubt pandya will be able to do...
Pandya can be used as a third seamer only & not as a frontline bowler. India should go with 3 spinners (Jadeja,Ashwin & Misra), all the three are quality alrounders, Umesh & Shami should take the pace attack. Ishant is useless at this stage. He is struggling to take wickets even in Ranji. In fact younder Sandeep Sharma or Harshul Thakur should have been included in the squad. Any how team is selected but Ishant should not be in playing XI. Jadeja is a good batsman & capable of scoring century, hence he should come at No.6 head of Ashwin & Saha.

and anyway it is not about who bowls first but whether hardik pandya can be regarded as a regular bowler....at what speed he bowls is not the issue but whether he can average at least 3 wickets per test...

As an experienced he could not able to take wickets & win match for India against NZ in NZ. Remember how Mccullum & wicket keeper saved the match from innings defeat? The match was drawn only because of great Ishant Sharma. Dropped easy caught & bowled chance. Only advantage about Ishant is he is a tall guy. Otherwise he is useless. Will take 5 wickets once in Ten matches & remain in the team for long.

NO joking brudder.. Getting a steep bounce from a length is a potent tool against pommies and hence my inclination towards Ishant.

Ishant is a vastly improved bowler since his early years.. Of course, he can still better up and reach the standards set by Steyn
