I believe he lacked courage to criticize Sachin and Laxman who represent the influential west zone and south zone respectively. Even its matter to notice that both Sachin and Laxman are keeping their mouth shut in this regard. I wonder if Ganguly alone is that powerful to reject Sastri
Shastri was predetermined to attack Ganguly after losing the highly paid prestigious job as he used to so in early days. Also he doesnt have that courage to hit back Sachin, Jagdale or Laxman. After losing the job he has lost his positional respect also as he questions of absence of Ganguly & that too when he is fighting for his candidature as head coach from Bangkok (holidaying? sure enough to get post by his name & ex team dir?) Nobody is indispensable in this world. But by throwing word war in media he has brought down his position to below category & also questioning the credibility of BCCI on this selection procedure. BCCI should be aware of that & act accordingly in future.
If Shastri thought that India Coaching Job was so important and also finds fault with Sourav for missing the Interview when it was HIS turn - I wonder How Shastri himself was PHYSICALLY ABSENT from the Interview and WAS HOLIDAYING ABROAD....WHEN THE CRUCIAL INTERVIEW WAS BEING HELD IN INDIA...??..
The whole process was itself a joke and nobody was serious in selecting the head coach.one of the advisory council members is on video conference and few applicants also gave interview through video conference this shows the callous attitude of bcci.the selected candidate not fitted into any of the guidelines set for selection process.bcci just fooled the people by doing all this exercise.what is indian head coach puppet in the hands of selection committee and captain of the team.best of luck to Mr Anil kumble but still remains the question do our cricketers and administrators serious in making money or promoting cricket.bcci is playing with the feelings of fans
If as Ganguly said, the Indian Coach's job is the most important cricket job in the world, then why did he prefer the CAB meeting to the Interview process?

I think Ganguly made it easier for Sastri as he had to convince only three Sachin, Laxman and Jagdale.
Shashtri enjoying in Bangkok 7stars luxurious as he now habits of it in bcci why not he presents in interviews, shashtri can't remains without enjoying 5 star life, shashtr should never forget that people kicked him from team by shouting shashtri hai hai every times
It is an unwarranted comment by Sastri after his failure to get selected. Had he attended in person and Ganguly was not there have some meaning in it. A person who seems to be interested in getting the job of the coach seems to have not preferred to attend in person but expecting the interviewer had to be present and blamed on failure in getting the job. Whether it has any sense to blame. May be because of his over estimating of himself. Happened to be younger among the two, Kumble is just retired as well as a better performer than the other may be better. For coaching batting and fielding his deputies could take care. It has to be watched whether the team performs better than their present caliber. If so Ok other wise again Sastri would get opportunity to hit back against Ganguly and Kumble. Let us all wish Kumble for the best
I remember the days when Shastri used to come down the track as if to hit a six, but would end up just defending it. He will do this continuously and that used to drive me mad:)

I do. Shastri was an ordinary cricketer thrived on Mumbai lobby and now he has become the paid mouthpiece of BCCI's illegal activities
People like Shastri always think that they will get whatever they want (even without desrving that).Man, learn to accept defeat graciously. That is one of the conditions to be a great coach.
