Perhaps that sums up why India are going there and perhaps the series has been chosen strategically to register a overseas win for a the Kumble-Kohli team of a new coach and a new captain! Kumble could not have asked for a more favorable series with WI inexperience showing, be it be the batting or bowling.However given that the Indian batting--be it the opening or the m.o are yet to prove their consistency; few early hiccups cannot be ruled out although the Indians rare expected to pull through in the end being a better side. That is why the larger question is why only Tests , why no one dayers or T20s ? Is it because then a clean sweep is not assured WI being a much tougher side for India to beat them? Perhaps India want to start on a positive note of confidence before embarking on a long home series of Tests with world’s stronger sides? Of course the series taken together with the long home series could help stabilize the long term India batting side of a new ‘fab four or five’ ! Or is it in this changing modern times of T20 and shorter versions cricket the WI Tests series are planned as some sort of ‘commercial break’ for India fans to conveniently flip channels? So not just the spectators or crowd in the stadium but even the TV viewing are certain to be thin for sure. Now coming to cricket proper the K-Ks are an attacking combo for sure but they should take care m.o. doesn’t crumble like

(CONTD.).. doesn’t crumble like a pack of cards.thus the K-K combo has to take care things don’t go wrong in an easy looking tour ! To that extent Kumble with just 1 yr tenure to start with certainly will be under scrutiny for his man management skills. Regarding the team, for once the bowling resources look very comfortable on a overseas tour with lot of flexibility and options for the captain. On the batting, picking Rohit Sharma is a mistake because he doesn’t look to be interested in the longer format. It is only going to create unnecessary confusion and tension for others. Say after some failures of others when Rohit too would fail coming as replacement it is certainly going to be problematic. Even Stuart Binny could be just a passenger on the entire tour.
