There was huge difference of attitude between Gavaskar and other indian players. He has shown the smartness of cricket to indian players, Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Saurabh Ganguly learnt a lot by seeing him in television. Tiger was unique with his own style can not copied by others, but Gavaskar is a role model of every indian cricketer. He is true all rounder - be as a captain,as a opening batsman, as a tactician to handle senior players or BCCI top boss,as a writeter,as a columnist,as a critic, everything is superb and valuable.
People may sing praises on sachin tendulkar. But sunil gavaskar is the greatest of them all. when he played West Indies had the greatest fast bowling attack in the world, Australia had Lillee,Thommo & Co, England had Botham/Hendrick/willis in their prime, NZ had the great Hadlee and Pakistan the great Imran/Sarfraz and later Wasium Akram. Sunny made his runs against all of them. Had India played SA then, he would have scored easily against Clive Rice and Mike Proctor also. When sachin played. except for Australia & SA, the attack was not that great. So let us salute the original little master!
