The big question is ..... Why not Kapil convert his 30-50's in Hundreds? Sure Kapil had the capacity to be a predecessor to M S Dhoni, the finisher. Instead he chose to be a predecessor to irresponsible players ...... you know who !!
hello kapil, u lost ur credibility-----please let me correct ---who z d first batsmans by ruthless bating made double century in one -----its sachin not shewag----u tell shewag to play like sachin how to make a double century in one day------which format ur making comparision--------the world is seeing ur foolish comment---------

Kapil took his wickets in spin pitch baba. Indian pitches were built for Bedi, Chandrasekhar, Prasanna, Venkataraghavan, okay.
We have seen several players from Mumbai who are respected as great players, but, they are content with personal records only. Never seen any aggression. I thing only Vinod Kambli was an exception.

Mukherjee: I think you are confused. Every cricketers runs and wickets are added to their personal records. Go check.

Deb Babu ..... aggression thrives only when you have some body to back you, like say Dravid. This does not make Sehwag more unselfish player than Dravid. Both were playing according to their natural style and TEAM PLAN. That is why it is team game. If team could not capitalize on good work done by earlier player like Sachin, does that make Sachin a selfish player? Kolkata people almost burned stadium when Kambli was still on the field in that World Cup (Kambli literally weeping). Can you imagine this happening had sachin, Ganguli, Dravid still playing at that time?

@ Mukherjee,
Your idol Gangully continued to play in pathetic form in test as well as ODI's before selction committee kicked him out eventually and everybody knows while captaining the side especially during the later part of his career how Ganguly acted like a dictator and partitioned the team and selected his favourite players rather than selecting the deserved ones..... so before abusing Mumbai players introspect about your BONG players as they were no saint that played for country....

Sachin has been a better batsman than Ganguly in all form of cricket & I think there would be no doubt in anyone's mind on this. However as far as captaincy is concerned, Ganguly was the most successful while Sachin was nothing. As a batsman Sachin played much better under the captaincy of Ganguly. This kind of comparison is not at all effective. Sachin might had scored much higher runs than Ganguly in international cricket, but runs scored by Gamguly mostly resulted in Indias victory rather than Sachin.

When Sachin was captain,All the fixers were operating from underground, and scam was not unearthed. Greatness of Sachin lies that he never ever made fuss, under whom he was playing. Always encouraged junior players. Captaincy to Dhoni was suggested to Mr. Pawar by Sachin only at that time.
Sure sachin could have done better. But he has done the best for himself with so many top targets!! Even this is difficult with pressure of game etc.. Every BODY is built different. Kapils gesture is noble!! Sachin s doing is natural!! Two legends to be proud of!!however!

Agree, he was honest, good human being, but he never played for team and was just a record player

@ chill out,
how can you say that Sehwag played for the team. He got out n'th number of times very very casually and irresponsibly whenever team required to chase the target is that what you call as PLAYING FOR THE TEAM? to throw your wicket away casually? And everybody knows how Kapil Dev was tolerated in the team for completing his record of wickets even in his PATHETIC FORM AS A FAST BOWLER even tail enders used to score on his bowling.
Everyone knows how Ganguly was stuck to his position in the team and required to be kicked out for terribly bad form by selectors and his fear of short and fast bowling is well known fact. Laxman played well ONLY IN SOME SELCTIVE TESTS he was NEVER A CONSISTENT BATSMAN that you would rely upon.
Yes as far as Dravid is concerned, I agree he was the only player who can be compared with Sachin or as good as Sachin in terms of consistency, ability to play at any position, on any pitch home and away, with utmost ease and efficiency. The ONLY problem with Dravid ( if u call it a problem) was his lack of aggressiveness some times and his lack of rotating the strike ( singles). But having said that Dravid was the only player (in terms of Dedication, determination, consistency, no-nonsense attitude, focus, temperament ) who can be compared with Sachin and come very close to him.

Why so upset, you are not retired still? Srini still your behind? he he
Sachin was the best player India has ever produced. He made the most impact on Indians than Gavasker, GR Vishwanath, Chandrashekar and Kapildev. Kapil has always something against Tendulkar... but when questioned about Sourav Ganguli when Sourav was just lingering on to his team spot with his worst performance, kapil was diplomatic and said let Sourav decide about his retirement... probably he was afraid of backlash from bengalis. Poor spirit from him..

You are wrong mr nagraj, if it were not for Kapil bringing world cup in 1983, half of India will be asking now 'cricked? what is that?'.
Re: Typical Indian Mentality
by Chiranjib Chakraborty on Oct 30, 2015 12:14 PM
If one is practical & believe in ultimate performance & results, will not agree with this thought. Kapil is one who taught India how to win one day cricket. Gavaskar is of that class who showed how to face 92/93 miles delivery without helmet. I rate them as all time great Indian cricketers & of course Shewag as the greatest entertainer of the game.
Yes Kapil also did not know how to take wickets at the end of his career and in the dream of breaking Sir Richard Hadlee's record of most wickets he forgot to retire and kept playing and playing and playing and playing and we Indians including the skipper Mohd. Azzruddin kept tolerating him by giving him bowling to the tail enders so that he could take wickets and break the record and atleast than would think of retirement. But that was not happening. DEVA SHAPPATH.
Sachin was a typical mumbai brand cricketer. He was only concerned about his personal records and never played for the team like gavaskar and ravi shastri. Comparing fellow cricketers of his era Dravid & Laxman have won more test matches for india, and ganguly has won more one days matches for india compared to record player Sachin Tendulkar

Chill Out: Im amused by your stories again. :-) Dravid and Laxman took 20 wickets in test matches? When?

@ chill out,
hahahaha,
Laxman and Dravid have won more matches for Inida??? and Ganguly more ODI than Sachin??
You seem to be a big hater of Sachin Tendulkar & your hatred is so much that you are talking anything but lies. Get your knowledge of cricket updated.....
Kapil was a very good bowler, good lower order batsman, great alrounder and terrible coach. But I agree with him on this one - Sachin didn't fulfil his potential. Except for a brief period in 90s, he was not even the best batsman by stats. He was elegant, he was classy, he had the technique but didn't dominate the bowlers in test matches, wasn't consistent enough, didn't convert his centuries into doubles, struggled and played defensively after reaching 80s, struggled against incoming deliveries throught, didn't play well in big matches (except for brief period) and so on. Too many negatives to be considered an all time great.
Statistically, he is not the second best and just among a group of fine players.
