Attitude is paramount
by vikadakavi on May 08, 2015 07:53 PM

In lighter vein, if you assign values to alphabets like A=1, B=2.. Z=26, then alphabets in the word "KNOWLEDGE" add up to 96, "HARDWORK" add up to 98, while "ATTITUDE" add up to 100!

One can say that giving one's hundred percent to his task, responsibility is nothing but showing the right attitude.

Coming to cricket, oodles of talent, technical expertise, skills, ability, physical fitness add up to a big NAUGHT, if the player does not possess the right attitude. By attitude, I do not just mean respect to seniors, officials, fans, rules and regulations, ethics etc. Even more important, the preferable player is one with the right attitude in terms of playing the right kind of game based on what the match situation demands.

Just one example. Yesterday, Sunrisers Hyderabad should have won their match against RR with a much higher margin of runs, since the top four wickets of RR fell quite early. It is the attitude of the SRH fielders that made them look ordinary by winning the match by the proverbial whisker.

Are runs the only criteria for captaincy
by lahiri alokesh on May 08, 2015 02:01 PM

If runs were the only criteria for captaincy then Sourav Ganguly , Mansoor ali Khan Pataudi and some other stalwarts should have retired earlier.

Ganguly's comment on Virat Kohli

Runs matter most to get into a team and retain your place, but as a player or captain , you need some special qualities like attitude, ability to lead people., convincing others and impartial attitude. Probably Ganguly forgot the episode when Boycott was dropped from the second test after he scored almost a double century..Why, just for attitude!!..Recent example is K Petersen!!
