ganguly made sehwag an opener and sehwag was successful at that position and ganguly was lauded for this move...
but what is sehwag's take on that?
sehwag has said "I have been successful as an opener but who knows, maybe I would have been more successful in the middle order," said Sehwag, who beccame the number one Test batsman.
"I still would like to bat in the middle order. It's difficult to field one-and-half days and then come out to bat in 10 minutes. When you bat at number six like (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni, it allows you some rest" said the cricketer after receiving the ESPNcricinfo Test batting award.

ganguly even tried to turn laxman into an opener...laxman did not like that and resisted it...he declined the offer of being an opener and told frankly to ganguly either consider me at another batting position or forget me....
