That may be true or may not be in some spells especially against Viv Richards. Please remember great cricketers have lot of ego and so have this bunch of West Indians. Kapil Dev was one of the very successful bowlers against their best and in the initial 5 years of his career he was genuinely quick. It will always be difficult for Roberts, Holding, Garner to admit openly.
Andy Roberts is one of the true great fast bowlers of all time. He would scare the cra ppe out of the batsmen in the old days of unlimited bouncers and uncovered pitches.
That generation of attacking fast bowlers will never be seen again.
That was a very good advise from the great man. Fast bowlers must be always willing to bowl fast and as a variety he can increase the speed of the ball to surprise a batsman more than being predictable to bowl slow as a variety. He is also right to term Umesh as the only fast bowler India has ever produced and I hope Umesh be one for a longer time. We have ample samples of bowlers who initially bowled fast in their career then dropped their pace to become slow medium, these bowlers are still picked in the test team only for their close proximity with either the captain or some of the selectors who hail from their zone.

greats like andy roberts give tips by heart as they love the game they have played .he wants the upcoming bowlers to learn from his experience.
