Why nobody talks about fast bowling in India??
by Hindustani on Aug 05, 2015 08:33 PM

Whenever its cricket which is almost all the time when it comes to indian "sports", all that people care about or talk about is either batsmen of spinners as if fast bowlers do not have any say in cricket.. whereas in most other countries like England Australia and South Africa, they put a lot of emphasis on getting good clean fast bowlers.

KOHLI AND BHAJJI WILL BE UNDER MAX SCRUTINY-II
by damodaran mohan on Aug 03, 2015 06:04 PM  | Hide replies

(contd.)Now coming to bowling while the renewed emphasis on spin attack is welcome but again the selectors could have inducted youngsters like Y/Chahal in place of either Bhajji or Amit Mishra. It is really surprising that not just the selectors but the entire BCCI seems to be having lot of expectations from the aging veteran although he has not done anything special in domestic cricket. So he will be on max spotlight after Virat Kohli and could under pressure. Amit Mishra who got a raw deal mostly under Dhoni is lucky to get another chance to redeem himself. One positive is both the veterans could push Ashwin to perform above his potential preparing him better for future overseas tours. Kohli has indicated possibly he will play three spinners and augurs well. Let us hope at least two if not three spinners will form backbone of Indian attack combo for future overseas Test tours under Kohli. Even teams like Aus, SA, Eng are giving importance to spin but Dhoni somehow failed to get best out of spin with his defensive mindset. SL Test tour prospects ? Virat Kohli’s form will be crucial and unless he performs chances of India winning the series are slim.

Strange that you have not mentioned a word about the fast bowlers.

SELECTORS HAVE SETTLED FOR SOFT OPTIONS.NO FORWARD LOOKING-I
by damodaran mohan on Aug 03, 2015 06:00 PM

Yes, there are no surprises but somehow the feeling one gets is that selectors are adopting easy options not taking risk or taking trouble to look ahead. Capt. Virat Kohli is young and aggressive and although he has already made his intentions clear of going all out for a win with an attacking playing XI , I expected him to push for couple of more youngsters in the side. For instance on the batting front Rohit Sharma despite his double hundred is temperamentally and attitude wise doesn’t fit into Test side. Main problem is going by his attitude he just doesn’t appear to be interested to slog for 5 days frankly. So, not only that one youngster in his place could have been inducted but also that Cheteshawr Pujara could come under pressure too as only six batters can play. Actually it is Pujara who needs to be persisted for SL as well as Home series against SA as a long term prospects and not Rohit. Rohit sword hanging over Pujara all the time is not fair and could unsettle him. Then comes Shikhar Dhawan , the opener, in spite of his big debut is yet to prove he belongs to Tests side going by his technique, temperament etc.He lacks patience and plays too many shots early in the innings. I only wish the young K L Rahul who did well in Aus gets precedence over Dhawan.

If Bangladesh can beat a New Look - Strong Indian team 2-1
by himamshu on Aug 01, 2015 10:15 PM

Then Sri Lanka will easily Steamroll this Indian team (With or without the so-called Big Guns) relatively easily.

The Last time India won a Test Series on Sri Lankan soil was way way back in 1993.

Unless fixed by BCCI - Indian team will Lose by default.

I completely agree. I think Ravi Shastri has too much attitude and an inflated ego. He is more of "show" and less of "go"

Overall good team selection. But with due respect to him I guess India should have tried a new spinner ahead of Bhajji. We should look ahead for future..

Yes. Some new spinner like Shreyas gopal could have been tried as Bajji is 34 now

Lanka will be more determined to win then ever, considering that it's Sanga's swansong. With a rather temperamental Virat Kohli in charge of the Indian outfit, I think Sri Lanka will win with ease.
