15 test matches lost shamelessly OVERSEAS is indeed a great captaincy record which no captain of a leading team in cricket history could do... hahahaah

ganguly was the proud holder of that record before dhoni...ganguly lost 10 matches lost overseas....if ganguly had played as many matches against aus eng and sa as dhoni did ganguly would have also lost many more matches and if dhoni had got to play as many tests against bd and zim his away record too would have looked good...

of the 28 tests that ganguly captained away he played 7 tests against bd and zim (a staggering 25%) out of which he won 6 and lost 1 (against zim in zim) and played only 10 tests out of those 28 against eng sa aus (only about 32 %)

dhoni on the other hand of the 30 away tests that he captained played against bd and zim in only 1 test! while he played as many as 19 tests (about 63 %!) out of those 30 against sa eng and aus...

if like dhoni ganguly had to captain in 30 tests out of which only 1 test would be against bd and zim and 19 against sa eng and aus his away record also would look terrible...and if dhoni like ganguly had to captain 28 tests out which only 10 would be against sa eng and aus and as many as 7 against bd and zim his away record would have looked fantastic....

all ganguly;s away aura has been built upon those 6 wins against bd and zim...

you dont go bang bang from start...because wickets had fallen he had to play carefully at the beginning...and you dont try to win matches in 30 overs you play all 50 overs especially so when the target is so big...and if he had support from other end he would have tried to win...but you alone cannot chase 300 plus target ....especially with wickets falling at other end...if wickets had not fallen at the other end he would have tried to go as near the target and win as possible...

If Dhoni follows his advice he would score 36 runs in 60 overs but just remain not out and Gavaskar would validate and defend his innings...lolz.

In my view, thought it may seem an exaggeration, he can learn something from Dhoni instead of suggesting what Dhoni should do.

However, we all know Gavaskar's extraordinary political abilities...Sandeep Patil being the head of selection committee, Shastri being the team director, we all know where Indian cricket is heading towards, don't we?

Well said and you are correct Tanmay. This is the fact. These off the field yesteryear players should be weighted down in Teams affair since political ability is well known fact but unfortunately it is other way round and Indian cricket at bottom low. Discouraging Dhoni is big loss to Indian cricket.

Even the whitewashes happened and not to forget that there were some series in which India did not even win a single match. And by the way, I did not know Dhoni played from 2-3 decades.

Why do you feel my thought "Dogmatic". Dhoni is match winning player and his records speaks. What Gavaskar were in limited over version cricket "36 runs in 60 overs". More famous for dressing room politics. Gavaskar should have no face to speak about Dhoni or advice Dhoni. Better ask him to continue do commentary because it is easy to comment then perform.

Dhoni does not do politics? L0L. No better reason to prove your dogmatism. He is the biggest politician Indian team has ever seen.
Search for the slowest innings in T20, Dhoni stamps his authority in 4 out of 5 innings. Whenever he has remained not out and supposedly finished matches single handedly check the number of runs and strike rate of other batsmen and compare it with Dhoni. No 50s in T20 but quite a few 50s for CSK. The list is endless.
