Nevertheless, it must be noted that West Indies lost the opening match against India by a very convincing margin. I predicted that India would win the World Cup Finals, and they did with style and thrill. After that defeat, the West Indies looked like world losers instead of world beaters in major tournaments. The 1983 heralded the decline of West Indian cricket.
