Joel Garner is expressing disappointment. Nevertheless, it must be noted that West Indies lost the opening match against India by a very convincing margin. I predicted that India would win the World Cup Finals, and they did with style and thrill. After that defeat, the West Indies looked like world losers instead of world beaters in major tournaments. The 1983 heralded the decline of West Indian cricket. Although they produced greats like Walsh, Ambrose and Lara, they were not able to win major tournaments and Test series.
