except that we batted about 70% to 75% as well as the aussies, in all other departments like disciplined bowling , fielding , containing the tail enders while they bat , and application of our batsmen when they bat where they waste their talent by adopting rash shots, we failed in all these miserably

Discussions are valid and necessary. But using unparliamentary language during the discussions can be avoided. We should not cross that limit in our opinions in these columns as it is public domain. some moderation is required. It is only suggestion for the followers. I do appreciate the discussions and analytical comments in these columns

Wise words

Anil Kumble has really given sharp and straight advice to our bowlers, selectors and our captains as well. This piece by him should be made compulsory study material for all, from Chairman of selectors downwards.

Fielding !!!

Somehow there is no discussion about the number of dropped catches. If a bowler has to get a person out two times...well, that may work in gully cricket.

adding to the woes, more dropped catches, stumping chances, wrong umpiring decision cost India the series.Fielding should supplement the efforts of the bowlers. Ofcourse Australia also dropped some catches

Indian team should learn from Karnataka Ranji bowlers
by samudra blr on Jan 13, 2015 04:11 AM  | Hide replies

Indian team should learn from Karnataka Ranji bowlers, they are consistently taking 20 wickets in every match they play
VinayKumar has led his bowlers well, they won Ranji Championship last year , as well as the limited over version, they defeated even Rest of India(ROI), due to politics in selection, not even a single Karnataka bowler represented Indian bowling attack in Australia

No use, I don't know if any person in the support team or for that matter Ravi shastri etc is doing that sit in with the bowlers. Dhoni for sure should be aware of this, but either bowlers have no learning skill at all or don't care at all, get dropped is fine but will comeback later with some good performance. Do some practice games like England are doing among themselves and get that line and length, basics right which is Eoin Morgan's thought process behind these games. The bowlers think the same bowling done in India is fine for overseas which they should know by now will leak lots of runs. It's a simple thing, always maintain the Line and Length, and they have the worlds best people around them to tell them still nothing is happening. They should know that each ball is crucial and should be bowled with the merit it deserves, it's not like couple of deliveries they try to do different things to suprise batsman etc etc. I guess they are under pressure to take wickets first without worried if they are getting hit everywhere. That is not smart bowling , put pressure by bowling good like and length, then aim for couple surprise line then again with controlled aggression not losing focus and spraying those ones. No idea what is going wrong in here, can somebody please go and talk to the team and fix it asap b4 WC.

that's what I have been saying even before the series started. With this quality of fast bowlers, you can't blindly follow the opposition strategy. If Australia select three pace bowlers, they have the energy to bang the ball at 140.Unfortunately, Indian bowlers are weak physically and mentally.

Hi atleast 3 Indian bowlers could also bang the ball at 140 plus. The difference was where did they bang the ball. That is where the Umesh,Varun, Ishant and Sami went wrong. Back to school for these guys.

our bowlers
by Gotchi on Jan 12, 2015 08:42 PM  | Hide replies

Our bowlers are just plain dum6. They cannot variate, adapt. But the fault starts with the coach. Poor coaching and second fault lies with captain and senior players who don't seem to advice bowlers on the field like players from other teams.

Today with the game being too much batsmancentric, the bowlers (atleast the Indians) have started accepting that they would leak runs. That is what is continuing in Tests as well. Great bowlers are always misers when it comes to giving away runs, no matter what format it is and what methods the batsman adopted. It primarily calls for focus, consistency and plenty of practice. Sadly the Indians do not find enough time to do practice. They instead act in commercials, roam around with girlfriends, party all night. They are too busy for the primary skills, ie is playing cricket for which they are picked up. BCCI also doesn't care as many runs scored means more entertainment and lots and lots of sponsorships. Why care for the game?

anil Kumbke is not entirely correct. The bowlers are good, but the coaches are useless and they do not train them properly. Kumble is not addressing the role fo the coaches at all.

Yes. We all have to look at the source of Problem like influence of coach, Director etc. Talent is there but needs to be tapped.

ok,did successful bowlers like Kapil, Lillee,Waqar,Chaminda Vaas have coaches? If the bowlers don't know how to do the basics right,no coach can help them. What are they doing in the nets?

That's whining. How many of the great bowlers had great coaches; The Indian bowlers today have had more access to quality coaches than in other countries. Problem is the unfair selection process and too much hero-worship of batsmen. As long as that corrupt pig Srini exists in cricket, don't expect things to improve.
