treat bowlers with care
by Krish on Jan 15, 2015 04:29 AM

Ishant alone has consumed multiple chances, otherwise none of the bowlers get the chance that batsmen get. Agreed that 3 batsmen were splendid, but what about Pujara, Raina, Dhawan, Rohit- why are they considered solid and not dropped? Ashwin has been repeatedly dropped on spinning pitches that too. He was dropped after one innings in SA, no matches in NZ, dropped for first three in Eng incl the match at Edgbaston on a turning wkt, and again dropped for Adelaide where Lyon demolished India. Added to this our fielders dropped 5 catches in 1st innings of Sydney. Ashwin, Bhuvi and with some guidance even Aaron and Umesh can become match winners. Don't treat batsmen as royalty and bowlers like chhaprasis.

The article does not address the fact
by Varadarajan Ravindran on Jan 13, 2015 03:07 AM  | Hide replies

Th article does not address the fact when it talks about the mind set and mental maturity of the bowlers. It should addres these qualities with references to the coaches. After all., most of the bowlers have limited or no experience in international cricket in the long format of the game. The article should discuss the competence or incompetence of Duncan Fletcher and his coterie of assistant coaches and trainers.

I agree to certain extent that the coaches are to be blamed. But having played for so many years, one would expect somebody like to Ishant to apply his brains when the opposition batsmen are going bang, bang. None of them appear to have the ability to learn on the field and do corrections immediately. Really do not understand this. Is this lack of intelligence on the part of the bowlers or a bloated ego to listen and learn?

immature fast bowlers
by gannu on Jan 12, 2015 05:47 PM  | Hide replies

You play bowlers like Ishant sharma for any number of years ,but he will mature and use his brain. Even after playing so many tests he is not able to understand the batsman and not able to bowl accurately. He should not have been in the team. In his place either Ishawar pandy or karnataka skipper should have been selected.

Dhoni fills up the team with his own useless cronies. The results were obvious in the twin tours of England and Austraia. The present tour was not too bad due to the emergence of Virat Kohli as captain. Dhoni and Tendulkar have been major brand scams who never delivered on foreign tours against good teams.

Indian Bowlers lack everything
by joe britto on Jan 12, 2015 04:42 PM  | Hide replies

The current set of bowlers lac in everything except talking. Ashwin is not a all arounder . We need a genuine spinner and we need genuine all arounders like Stewart Binny. Binny was given a raw deal and not allowed to bowl more than 5 overs a spell and that too when the batsmen were well set.

Yes,but both Bhuvi and Binny will be totally ineffective in Australia. The batsmen will dispatch the ball out of the park at double the speed of their bowling.

The bowling coaches are useless and they contribute to the poor performance in overseas tours. The pace powlers are quite fast. The coaches and selectors should do away with fast bowlers without muh pace. The sackign of Duncan Fletcher an d his close coterie of bowling coaches would do the trick. The coaches are training the spinners poorly as well.

Ashwin has been dropped in matches with pitches that had turn. In Adelaide he was dropped and India paid the price. In Sydney when he did turn in second innings, runs were plundered from other end. It's too early to call off Ashwin's career after just 5 tests in one year of playing abroad that too in 3 comebacks. Obviously he wasn't confident because he knows he is not Ishant or some of the batsmen who get multiple chances (Raina, Pujara, Dhawan, Rohit). Also India need two spinners instead of 3 slow medium pacers who can't swing!

Very Insightful write up!!

Fleming has hit the nail right at head.Indian bowling coach needs to take a note.
Yadav,Aaron are fast bowlers who are not being handled well.
They need to be accurate and bring in a bit more of wrist into their bowling and it will give a bit more bounce into their deliveries.

We need to swallow our ego and appoint somebody like Waqar or Wasim Akram as Bowling coach. Then only our bowlers will learn some basics of fast bowling. The rest are all useless coaches

Fleming is correct. we have to sack the over-paid Duncan Fletcher and his coterie of useless bowling coaches.

Stuart Binny is too old to be considered as a new prospect at international level. He should have been selected over ten to twelve years ago and trained. Training a player over thirty years of age is a useless and maeningless endeavor.

Indian bowling attack needs guidance
by srirama chandra rao on Jan 12, 2015 03:54 PM  | Hide replies

I think somebody like Srinath should be chosen as bowlling coach and some body like Dravid as main coach to guide Indian youngsters to the next level as some of them are inexperienced at international level and they have the talent. They should be groomed properly
