A typical Indian comment from a typical Indian at his jingoistic and chauvinistic best!
Ravi Shastri talking about 5 day games being boring is a lesson in hypocrisy or his memory doesnt server him any longer as its been a while now since he was awarded with a garment of chappals...
Cricket in its pristine and glorious form is experiencing its death throes, under the assault of the abbreviated, distorted, melodramatic and soft version of the game. Money and dirty money and insane passion of a huge population for the only sport where we are world class will soon spell the doom for this frenzy bordering on the maniacal. Some 10-12 nations play the game seriously, while we have attributed divinity to cricket and cricketers. What Hayden as said is not his opinion, it is the concern of genuine cricket lovers. Not the ones who mindlessly celebrate Tendulkar's Bharat Ratna, awarded at the behest of sponsors and to win votes in an election, while a one, some Sunil Manohar Gavaskar, is asked to hold his cricket knowledge, by the mogul of India cricket, the Lord himself- the great Shah Rukh Khan.
Yes it was a turning track. If opponents would have been Pakistan or SL or even Bangladesh, then it would have gone to 4 or 5 days and nobody would have complained. It is only b'coz teams like SA, Aus, Eng when they lose in 3 days such things happen. India might have lost in 3 days as well in Australia but then nobody would dare complain about the pitches. The fact remains, subcontinent teams play spin the best and Aus/SA/Eng/NZ play well on fast tracks. End Of Story.
Hayden may have played 103 tests but has passed a comment which is full of bias. when in england, australia and newzealand sub continent teams gets bowled out less than 150 in an innings, they are labelled as incapable of playing swing and pace. we accepted it as it is true because in the same pitch their batsmen scored lot of runs and played better. where as that logic they completely forget when they get bundled out cheaply in a spinning track. then they say it "under prepared" wicket. There are at least 10 instances when test matches got over under 3 days in fast seaming and bouncing pitches. Aswin is right in suggesting to buy 2 mirrors, one should be given to hayden.
Intl. Cricketers should be able to play on all types of Pitches. Like, fast in AUS, slow in IND. so what ? Is there any infringement of Rules of cricket. Come on different pitches provide variety. And its same for both sides too.
Hayden's remark reminds of Sunil Gavasker.. He normally would ask.. " How many tests they have played?..." This means only people who have played more tests have more merit to say things even if it is one-sided... Please remember cricket is alive today and you peopel have made money because of 'non players' watching your game !!
