Even in sub-continent, their performance has not been up to mark (just analyse the Bangladesh / Sri Lanka series) So, it would be better if corrective steps are taken so as to improve team performance. It would be better if we stop creating hype about players (calling them MOST TALENTED, BEST IN THE WORLD, etc.)
Outside subcontinent, our batsmen must learn to play short and fast bowling which has been our weakness historically. From this batting line up only Rahane has the technique to play in such conditions. Kohali failed miserably in England but I believe he can still play on foreign pitches since he has that guts and determination to play. Pujara had also struggled a lot in England but still deserve a chance. For Other batsmen, they will need to take lot of efforts. From bowlers, I think Mohammad Shami when fit along with B.Kumar would be perfect pair one has pace and other has swing. Ishant Sharma can be used as third bowler, along with ashwin and yadav may be used as fourth if track is for fast bowling. It all depends at the end of the day on your determination and guts rather than techniques and all, but with proper technique you can score easily. The great example of this is our most successful batsman in overseas RAHUL DRAVID who had phenomenal average outside India. I see shades Rahul Dravid in Ajinkya Rahane, it's just that he needs to be more fearless.

In test matches, temperament is as important as technique and in current Indian batting lineup only two batsmen seems to have both namely Rahane and Pujara.
So both of them are must for test matches. Rohit sharma is an elegant stroke player but doesn't seem to have defensive technique and temperament to play in test matches as yet, however I may be wrong.

you are talking as if our current batsmen are at best to play spin (but the fact is that it is otherwise; performance during first test against SL is the best example)
India will do well outside subcontinent too with current cop of players now becoming experienced and the captain himself is positive unlike our previous captain fool who was probably the worst Test captain India has ever had..

I too feel the same way. Added to this Indian players are getting out to spinners rather than pacers. They may do well in outside subcontinent as their performance has improved against pacers
if KL rahul can do wicket keeping, then obviously indian team must involve one extra bastman in playing eleven. e.g. 1. kl rahul 2. pujara [bcz vijay is injured] 3. rahane 4. kohli 5. rohit 6. karun nair 7. bhuvaneshwar kumar 8. ashwin 9. mishra 10.ishant 11.umesh yadav

It sounds well as Rahul has kept wickets admirably as he has that experience previously and he says he relishes that job. Let us see how the team management views. Naman ojha also is a good batsman

Yes naman ojha is also good batsman but the kind of form karun nair has shown in domestic cricket aspecially against south africa A , i wud like to give an edge to karun nair over naman ojha
They will be a Formidable side to beat even inside India unless we produce Rank Turners and Dustbowls where it turns Square from Day 1 Morning session with the new ball.
Of course, it definitely hurts me to see Sri Lanka Lose an important 2nd Test (Farewell Test for Kumar Sangakkara), Atleast Sri Lanka should have Looked for a Draw which they did not unfortunately.
Indian team will definitely prove you Right when they Tour Australia, South Africa, England, West Indies and New Zealand - They might Win an Odd Test or Series here and there, but in the Long Run they will Definitely Fail like the Previous Generation of Indian Cricket players.
Gavaskar Sir, What about your untimely and unnecessary comments on Rahane batting at No. 3. You said he is made a sacrificial lamb...? Any regrets or apologies now...?

In the current set up only two batsmen have the temperament to bat at number 3 namely Pujara and Rahane.. So if you dont play Pujara, then Rahane is the obvious choice. Considering the cricket managements obsession with Rohit Sharma for unknown reasons, Pujaras place in the team will always be in jeopardy so they will have to go with the second best number 3 option Rahane. Rahane being a Team Man would bat at any position as it is he is easily the best indian batsmen in the current team.!!
