SPIN ATTACK COULD START EARLY WHEN BALL IS STILL HARD
by damodaran mohan on Aug 18, 2015 05:36 PM

Brilliant bowling by Ashwin indeed.Easily it is the best spell by him home or away.Given that he had not been very successful away what was the reason for pulling off such a thriller !Three reasons. One, his persistent pitching at the same spot ball after ball in a determined fashion a la Anil Kumble style. The o-o nagging line paid off. He didn't try any variations. Patience pays. However in the 2nd innings he started with middle stump line and often strayed on the leg stump line which was hit by ChandImal &co. and eased the pressure to some extent. Moreover it was turning track and he was getting good bounce and turn from the relatively hard new ball on the first day itself.2nd,brilliant close in fielding especially by likes of Rahane, Rahul etc.3rd, Virat Kohli setting an attacking field rarely seen in Dhoni's time. Test captains must now start introducing spin attack much earlier when the ball is not very old and is hard enough to get good bounce. If the opening pacer is not bowling well and giving away too many easy runs it is better to try and introduce spin early in the 7th or 8th over itself.

now that dhoni is no longer captain of india team his choices are being appreciated....strange...but thats life i suppose....

if dhoni was captain in this test...there would have been lots of criticisim about everything....like ashwin in the team rohit in the team ishant in the team etc. etc... sl score 97 for 5 to 367 all out...

kohli is surely lucky on that count...of course these being early days he will get lot of respect ...10 tests down the line things would be different...

JUST LIKE JADEJA WAS PLAYED EVEN AFTER REPEATED FAILURES DUE TO PRESSURE OF DHONI, THIS SHARMA MUST BE HAVING SOME GODFATHER IN THE TEAM OR SELECTION TEAM OR BCCI.
