Gavaskar's famous judgement and neutrality seems to have deserted him , in supporting Rohit, a fellow Mumbai player.. He was all at sea against the moving ball on a slow Galle pitch and was rapped 3 times on the pads . For Test cricket , India and Ravi Shastri should have given Pujara the first chance and then inducted Rohit if Pujara fails. If he continues his run of failures, Rohit will not be affected, but it will be Shastri's judgement of players that will be under question.
although rohit is a better choice than pujara, he lacks the confidence of a test attitude especially in a first test of a series. I think pujara is a better choice than rohit for the 1st test.
