From the time ICC imposed a check on excess sledging, after the World Cup 2015, the Australian team performance has gone down.Sledging was a potent weapon of the Aussies, & the experts in this current team were David Warner,Steve Smith,Mitchel Johnson,& Shane Watson. With a check imposed on sledging Australians became impotent, & were humiliated & drubbed in the series by England convincingly.

I never regarded Michael Clarke as a phenomenal player or a captain. He joined the team under the shadows of the members of the super team under Steve Waugh , i.e Mathew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, Adam Gilchrist, or a Mcgraath or Shane Warne. Nobody noticed him. Getting the aid of tremendous illustrous performers, the work of Michael Clarke was quite easy. But as soon as those legends retired one by one, more and more pressure were on the likes of Ricky and Clarke . The law of age caught up with Ricky and he had to shelve his gears and Michael was left almost alone without the aid of any illustrious players and he crumbled. There is no wonder, he had more lean trots than anything else. Added to this, was the additional but huge responsiblity of captaining the baggy green brigade. Clarke hadn\'t had the advantages of the big bowlers like Glenn McGrath, Jason Guilespie or a Shane Warne etc, and Brad Haddin was never a Adam Gilchrist. So he had to rely more on the utility player like Steven Smith or David Warner. James Failkner or Glenn Maxwell etc are no match for their predecessors and the obvious things are happening. The myth of power of baggy greens are busted for the lack of talents at present. The present Ashes series is a big proof for that. australia are losing consecutive tests in such poor manners. Neither the bowlers nor the batsmen could do anything most importantly the Australian nerves are shattered, wrecked completely. An average captain is leaving
