Too early to judge

You said the same about Kozhi too. Give a few years before judging. Do not judge after mere 1 series

Couldn't believe such articles could be written, then published

I felt this article was so blatantly and exaggeratedly flattering, far beyond what this youngster Rahane really deserves either for his performance or promise.

His average is only a little more than the other failed batsmen of this series.

In this series, he just had one or two good scores. But followed them invariably with failed innings, some of them when the situation crucially needed.

That is inconsistency, and inconsistency is one BIG malaise right now in Indian cricket.

I recognize this writer's name, and I presume he is a veteran journalist. So it makes it all the more difficult to understand how such a foolishly mushy article has been written, and then got published on rediff.

Baba Aparajit is a far better player than Unmukt. He has 50 first class average against Unmukt's 36. Baba is a decent bowler and good fielder too. I'd love to see Baba making grades before Unmukt does. But, in Indian cricket wisdom never prevailed and stats continuously ignored. I only pray, Baba too doesn't end up another Badrinath.

Appreciation
by c v sureshkumar on Sep 09, 2014 09:25 AM  | Hide replies

We need to appreciate the players for their individual performances... but please refrain from writing things in such a way that it makes these players GREATEST OF ALL TIME. The fact is that none of the players has consistency; none of them has the capability to win a match single handedly; hardly any of them plays to his best when the team needed most to salvage pride of the country. When we have such kind of players, I request all media to refrain from making performances given once in a while a sensational one. Its disgusting as these bunch of players almost had the pride of the country at stake.

What was talked about Virat Kohli before England Series ? And where he stands now?. We need players keep cool and play the game true to their skills. It was disappointing to see our youngsters give up without offering any fight.

Completely agree with you.

In India, like film stars, many have developed affinity to select players and overly prising them. Per se, this is not wrong, however, we do not have similar yardstick for all the players.

Take an example of Sanju Sampson. No body have seen him at international levels. I could see comments from people that he should be openers in all three formats of the game. Even in IPL, where, he came to limelight, he was not an opener.

What is more concernable is that even Media also has such selective affinity.

My fellow citizens, let us try to develop "meritocricy" in whatever we do, cutting across fields....whether in employment or games, the regional bias will not go.

We all take pride in saying "UNITY IN DIVERSITY", then why this regional bias exists!!!
