There was that Indian all-rounder ... England tour...he partyed till early morning, over-slept and missed the team bus to the stadium and none noticed that....India was batting and there was the usual collapse those days... it was about his turn to bat and sudendly the management notices that he was not there...the hotel was called up, he was woken up ... he came in whatever physical condition he was....went for batting and was almost immedaitely out....every saint has a past

check the records before saying. Ravi's record overall in overseas has been excellent. He used to occupy crease even for two days during test matches. In today's scenario please name one cricketer in our Indian team who can bat for two days ? You won't find a single one. The only one occupied the crease in the past for such long time was Rahul Dravid. Shastri scored lot of centuries outside subcontinent when india needed most. His 206 in Sydney, 119 in Port of Spain, 187 in england were all memorable innings.

He was slow while batting in overseas conditions. Remember india get all out for 125 at perth vs westindies in 1992, shastri was the highest scorer with 60. Remember benson and hedges in 1985 in which he was awarded champion of champions for his alrounder performance with bat and ball. He took time to settle but he kept one end in tact so srikanth could hit freely. You won't understand cricket, so no point in arguing.....

When India toured SA in the first few ODI's India's score after 15 overs were between 15 and 0 runs with Sastri not out on 10 or something like that. When the people of Mumbai, his home, marched in the night with torches on the streets chanting "if Sastri played in the next match we will burn his house" and in the next match he was dropped.
