whether a light or heavy bat could make a difference here. It's purely a question of anticipation, technique and concentration. Since he was hit on the back side of his head, I see it as a case of taking your eyes off the ball.

Agree. Certainly bat weight will not make a major difference. Technique, concentration and bouncy wickets experience is the key.

bat weight does place, onus on wrists and does not effectively allow you to wield your bat.
But yes, taking your eyes off the ball makes you vulnerable..
Notwithstanding the correctness of technique, unprotected areas like back of the head and neck need to have some armor. Immediate research and implementation needs to be done to protect lives..
Even if you talk of technique, how do you protect tail-enders, who can't have proper technique.
Enhancing protection and plugging out all vulnerabilities is the only solution..
