that is a given, but among all the 'mess' it's hard to see steven smith's rise. before the series against sa, he was even below the 90 mark.

inspite of his feat, this report didn't mention his giant leap which is a bit sad...but nevermind, its a majestic leap indeed.

i get what you're saying, and he will only improve his ranking, that will come as he continues to prove his prowess. at the moment , yes believe it or not guys like masakadza are ranked higher than him..
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab

yes, his odi average is also gradually improving..used to be in the 20s not so long ago
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab

third odi itself, abd called him a captain's nightmare :) what an accolade for a guy who found it hard to even get in the odi squad.

sivaji, i'm checking, he only averaged 20.73 before the series in uae. he has turned it on since the uae series.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab

when that happens dhoni descends from captaincy, and smith ascends to aus captainy L0L
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by dreamer formerlytaklu on Nov 24, 2014 05:13 PM
and correct, he was determined to do well, you can't just out of the blue perform on alien slow pitches if you are ill-prepared . i think he practiced a lot esp to face ajmal in tests, it's another thing babar and yasir turned up but yet he managed to save many sessions against them in the test series.

yep.except him all were vulnerable to spin and poor shot slection.that babar came like a barber and cut all aussies batsmenl0l

yep hope he is groomed well further enough in the next 1 year or so to take up the captaincy as i dnt see clarke going further especialy with his injuries
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab

lols..i guess we should stfu now...either way, i'm glad his capability in the odi format got shown thru in these two series. but you know if these articles based on the lists, ignore the players further down then its up to us fans to bring them into the forefront.

i mean smith here though nothing is a given, in the aus squad. he wasn't even picked for first game for sa series..aus just have too many options
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by sivaji theboss on Nov 24, 2014 05:51 PM
but may be he was nt picked up to give him some rest,go on a rotational policy and make him available for the remaining 4 matches
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by dreamer formerlytaklu on Nov 24, 2014 05:54 PM
no, it's cruel on smith already, fresh after the form in uae, the guy is ignored for watto who comes back from injury. it's only cuz of clarkie's injury smith got a chance to play the series.. sivaji, they have been ignoring smith for a long time for whatever reason, regarding him as a test-only batsman. this is why it's a huge deal that smith has basically had the last laugh at the selectors.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by dreamer formerlytaklu on Nov 24, 2014 06:00 PM
this is why i sure home smith is an 'automatic selection' for the wc following his stellar performances
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by sivaji theboss on Nov 24, 2014 06:02 PM
s to an extent agree but he was ignored many times earlier in his career as he was in and out of the team.may be the selectors did nt enough confidence on him or failed to relealise his potential.but dnt understand nw after proving himself in the last year or so in the odi format especially after the uae series why wd the selectors drop him.may be i feel watsons comeback after injury to give him an opportunity the selectors wd have taken such decision else u cant replace him.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by dreamer formerlytaklu on Nov 24, 2014 06:06 PM
you are correct in your assessment, watto was supposed to be an automatic selection whatever the format.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by dreamer formerlytaklu on Nov 24, 2014 06:20 PM
aus bowling selection is as much intriguing, starc is a notable omission for the series against us..
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by sivaji theboss on Nov 24, 2014 06:24 PM
s he seems the one bowler though does well with odd bals but looks ordinary at times compared to other bowlers becomes a notable ommision
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by sivaji theboss on Nov 24, 2014 06:27 PM
but too much of bowling options at times becomes a confusion and difficult more for the selectors
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ab
by dreamer formerlytaklu on Nov 24, 2014 06:29 PM
harris was an automatic selection once he was fit. he was sorely missed in uae.
