India has a history of elevating idiots, morons, incompetents and or frauds to highly exalted positions. This is exemplified by the appointments of under-qualified prime ministers like Indira Gandhi and incompetents like Deva Gowda or nominations of candidates like the inexperienced Rahul Gandhi. They also put useless non-English speaking people in international forums, ruining our image everywhere. The only face-saving grace was the appointment of Dr. Man Mohan Singh as prime minister (Cambridge and Oxford product) after Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru. Appointment of Gavaskar is the greatest news and symbolizes the victory of truth and merit over falsification and corruption!
