Why do you bring in " pataudi" .. Ganguli..!!
by NAGRAJ KV on Mar 11, 2014 11:25 AM

Dhoni is the best ever captain of India except for the recent debacle...Records suggests that.
The closest compititor is Ganguli. Why does Ganguli bring in Pataudi ??
Consider these..
Some contemporary crickters like Ponting say " Lara is better than Tendulkar".
Even ponting knows that Tendulkar has tormented Aussies more than anyone else.
Clearly Ponting was second best to Tendulkar. So!! why does he bring in Lara... Jealosy!!
If you ask some actors of Amitabh era as to who was the best actor they say " Dilip kumar".
Every body knows Amitabh was by far the most popular and succesful actor of his time.
But why do they bring in " Dilip Kumar". Again ..Jealosy!!

So...! why do you bring in " Pataudi" !! Mr Ganguli... Again....!

I think Lala Amarnath in 1952 was the best captain and later Ravi sasthri in 1987

If you analyse you will find a lot of names which were either as good as or arguably better than Ganguly as Captain. Dhoni apart others are Rahul,Kapil, Kumble, Ajit Wadekar and to some extent Nawab of Pataudi himself. Ganguly wants to talk about his captaincy and make others say he was a great captain. That is not cricket but politics Mr. Ganguly. No wonder you are no where even in politics today. If you ta

best captains

these 4 ppl shd be considered in analysing the best of indian captains considering the captains who have played 30 tests or more which determines
the ability of a captain as they have played enough tests to prove their consistency
pataudi -40 test-23% victories
kapil-34 tests- - 12% victories
ganguly - 49 tests-43% victories
dhoni - 52 tests - 50% victories

but these stats alone shd nt be considered in determining the best capatins as there are other factors too like the qualities of a captain.
first talking abt pataudi with respect to stats he has a phenomel record in terms of victories 23% which is by far above the standards of a
indian captain considering the era he had played when most test matches did not yeild results.
talking abt his qualities despite his eye injury he was able to manage himself as a succesful test cricketer.he also remains the youngest
indian cricketer to have captained.first person to have won an overseas victory for india.so he was an inspirational cricketer as a captain too
though one wd say the poloitcs he had played during his regime, tht is something apart,as every captain has tht tendency some openly
brought to the limelight some with silent politics, finally its all about cricket and results.

kapli dev thuough his stats are nt tht appealing, but he was one of the greatest all rounder and a true inspiration nt only as a bowler, but
also as captain.the inspiration which he had as a cricker and also as a captain makes him one of the 4 best captain

captains of india.

ganguly stats are pretty decent for an indian captain and so he falls one among the top four.it was under the cloud of match fixing
when he started to captain,a tough time to start as a captain under this scenario.he was able to pull out the team succesful to an extent
inspite of the scenario.he may be a politician as some call, may be true to an extent but tht doesnt take away his credit or success as every
captain to an extent does tht,but some are openly knwn bcos of the childish kind of behaviour and politics he does he was knwn for tht.
but it was during his regime we started to win abroad with wright and ganguly combo.which gave hope to the players in the team tht they cd
win matches abroad too. and his backing of players and selcting the players irrespective of the region was one the positive attributes as a captain
so he has both positives and negatives, but considering his overall performance he falls under the league of gud test captains.

dhoni by far has the best stats above them making him one of the most succesful captains india had ever had.the calm and cool
composure which he posses is one of the greatest attribute a captain he needs to have.he has been instumental in taking india to the
no 1 tests.but the area where he lacks is when it comes to team selection and the agression a captain needs esp while playing in tests.
he is nt a positive captain, doesnt go for the attach and has the tendency of negative mind set.if he can change his

atttitude with respects to these
he cd be th best captain india as produced and also winning more matches abroad which is the most essential thing in a captains tenure making it a balancing act.
but dhoni may nt play the same kind of politics which ganguly has done, but may be a silent politicianlol as dhoni is a smart cricketer.but s
he has to be given the right accolode as a captain as he is a gud captain basically but falls dwon in certain areas which he needs to improve.

ranking in terms is slightly a tough tasks, but if u ask me personally i wd rate pataudi as the best, follwed by the three.

Take out danguly as he cannot be role models for our kids as his antics and politics corrupt kids brains. Reg pataudi to Dhoni you cannot compare, the era's are too different. That leaves us with Dhoni only. We all know at the end of the day coolness and shrewedness wins hands down and Dhoni has proven that..the fake agression that Ganguly showed is just to cover up his laziness.. as we all know his fielding capabilities etc

Agreed @ aaa. We can't really say Pataudi was the best captain India had. Ganguly makes off the cuff comments which irritates cricket lovers. Mind you all his comments are political too. And don't get surprised if he starts singing a different tune altogether tomorrow. Laugh

Just winning in india or subcontinet pitches does not make you greates.(we have seen wat happened to team india ..even NZ beating in Test is too much)..Ganguly is 2nd best captain if Patudi is greatest as india started winning REAL TEST mateches abroad under his captiancy.

Records seem to suggest otherwise. India has lost maximum test matches abroad under Pataudi. And Ganguly has won about 5 or 6 matches under his captaincy against teams like Bangladesh and Zimbawabe. Well if winning on foreign soils is the criteria Rahul Dravidi has won series in west indies and England Ajit Wadekar too has won against West Indies and England and was hailed as

Cheap noise
by Raghu on Mar 07, 2014 06:13 PM  | Hide replies

Its amusing that even retired cricketers with nothing to show (shirt waving not included) can say whatt they want about a captain who won the WC, Champions Trophy, Test No 1 ranking and T20 world cup, not to mention leading the most dominant IPL team. Ganguly in contrast was dropped by SRK's KKR and dropped again by PWI(?). MSD has delivered - as a captain, as a keeper and as a finisher.
It speaks highly of MSD that he does not even bother to react to these cheap noises.
People who blame MSD for the 4-0 in Aus and Eng should remember that the famed batting lineup was in full attendance then and this young crop only lost 1-0 in SA and NZ. In fact I would even say that this young crop showed more fight than I would have expected to see from the over rated super stars of yesterday.
It would be better if Ganguly spells out some ideas (if at all he has any) on the real issue facing the Indian team, which is no teeth in the bowling dept.

I salute you sir for being a "MIR ZAFAR" by the nature of your thoughts and remarks.Cant believe how can one forget that Mr.Ganguly was the father of modern cricket and who has changed the entire cricket fraternity up side down,Dhoni belongs to the eastern region and ganguli was the first to spot him.JAI DADA

@Adiya: FYI, Dhoni was not spotted by Saurav. He was spotted by Dravid and Greg Chappell. And both saw leadership qualities in Dhoni and recommended Dhoni as next captain ahead of Yuvraj who was then the vc of Indian team. And Dhoni has been delivering in all formats with aplomb!

I fully agree with you Raghu. Thanks to such biased articles and cricket politicians like Saurav Ganguly who always wants to be in the limelight (he still harbours playing for India even today even though his playing shelf life is over), CSK players have to go through such unfair criticism and scrutiny. Similar articles were written by gang of Bengali writers in sports column of TOI to remove Dravid and Laxman (Sachin anyway you cannot touch ...) after the Australia tour but nothing came up on Sehwag, Harbhajan or Gambhir even when they failed miserably at that time. All this because except Saurav, rest of his colleagues were still playing test cricket which he could not digest! Every person has good and bad days, same goes for Dhoni. Instead of helping him and providing encouragement to him, these Bengali writers and Saurav keep making false accusations with a one-point agenda - remove all CSK players from India team (incl. India's most successful captain Dhoni)!!! People please wake up to this Bengali divide and rule policy and save Indian cricket from being divided. These heartless people are doing all they can to ensure Dhoni and CSK players in Indian team are in their worst state of mind when playing the next ODI world cup in Australia!!! Wake up India!
